Courageous Little Firefighter, his Best Friends and Their Heart Journey

Chapter 1

Heatwave and Quickshadow Flamezer both lived in Houston Texas. They were happily married. They were very happy right now. They had just welcomed a baby boy into the world. This was a very happy moment for them. They now had their first child and it made them very happy to have such a happy and healthy little baby. 

"Let's name him Hot shot," Quickshadow said smiling at her husband.

"I like that, it is a perfect name," Heatwave said returning a smile to his wife.

Then suddenly something seemed to be wrong. "Something doesn't seem right," the doctor said. Then a bunch of doctors and nurses began to look at Hot shot.

Something was wrong. That made both Heatwave and Quickshadow both very worried about this. They were wondering what was going on with their boy. "What is going on?" Quickshadow asked. She was a pediatric nurse so she knew something had to be wrong with her son. She had to know what was going on with her son too. 

"Your son there seems to be something going on with his heart," the doctor said. "We are sending you to Texas Children's hospital," he said.

They went right away to Texas children's hospital. There all kinds of tests were done on Hot shot. Heatwave and Quickshadow were both wondering what was wrong with Hot shot and how he was doing. It was kind of scary to know something was right with your child. They were very worried about Hot shot. They were wondering what they doctor was going to tell them. They were waiting for the news. 

"Hot shot has several heart defects," the doctor said sitting down. "Hot shot has tetralogy of Fallot, transposition of the great arteries, pulmonary arteriosa, a small right ventricle and two holes in his heart." the doctor said. "it was amazing he was born alive, and still alive, I am even amazed he hasn't gone into cardiac arrest," he said. "This little fella is a fighter," he said.

"Poor little Hot shot," Quickshadow said. 

"My poor son," Heatwave said.

"Looks like it is fixable with surgery," the doctor told them. "We can do the first surgery very soon," he told them. "Because it looks like Hot shot is going to need many surgeries to help fix the problems," he told them.

Hot shot was in the NICU to help monitor him. He looked so small and fragile in the incubator. He was covered in tubes and needles. It was kind of hard to see Hot shot like that. 

They called there families and friends to let the know what was going on with Hot shot. They hoped Hot shot was going to be okay. It was kind of scary to say the least. They knew soo Hot shot was going to have his first surgery and that made them anxious.

Then a few days later Hot shot was taken in to get his first every surgery. 

Heatwave and Quickshadow were both very nervous and scared. 

The doctors went right to work on Hot shot little heart. It took about 6 hours. "There that should do it for now," the doctor said.

Hot shot was soon back in the NICU he looked better already. He now showed a small scar on his little chest. His parents were going to have to explain about his scar when he got bigger. They were going to let him know that his scar is nothing to be ashamed of. They loved his scar very much and love it as much as they loved him. It was a relief for his parents. But they were reminded he was going to need more surgery as time went on. They knew he was going need surgery probably when he wasn't even a baby anymore they were prepared for that. They were told he was going to need surgery for years because of his multiple defects. The doctor told them he was probably going to need 4 or more surgeries. There was even the chance of a heart transplant. 

They were prepared for that. They even learned how to care for Hot hot during that time. They got all kinds of equipment meant to be used at home to help understand and care for his heart. 

Hot shot had to stay at the hospital for a few days after it happened. Then afterwards they were able to bring him home.

Hot shot was taken to see a cardiologist on a regular basis. Hot shot was like a lot of infants not understanding about what was going on. So it was scary for the little guy and made him cry. 

Hot shot had another surgery when he was 8 months old. This surgery last about 7 hours. It went well and Hot shot was going to stay there for a few days.

Hot shot was able to go home too. He was meeting his milestones. He was growing into strong baby.

Hot shot received a present on his first birthday it was plush rhino. Quickshadow made it look like a heart patient. Seeing the rhino helped Hot shot feel better.

The doctors did something when they came for their next appointment. They did the check up and tests on the rhino and then did it to Hot shot. Hot shot was bit more relaxed when they did that.

Hot shot was very happy to have his rhino. It soon got to the point where Hot shot wouldn't let the doctors or nurses do anything too him without them doing it to the rhino first.

Many parents noticed the rhino and how Hot shot interacted with it. They began to ask where they could get one. That is when the Heart Rhino organization was found. It was to help children facing heart disease.

Hot shot still had a lot of growing to do. Little did he know when he got a bit older he was going to make some life long friends. These friends he was going to spend many hospital experiences with. He was going to do many things with them outside of the hospital too. They were all going to do a lot together. They were all going to be the best of friends too. 

Right now Hot shot was just going have to wait to find out who these special friends were.
