ACUMA MAAKE KANCUBE
-------------------------------I could sense some tension in the room as Luyolo's dad glared at the two of us who were holding hands. I let go of Luyolo's hand.
I look at him, waiting for him to say something, but instead he glares back his father clenching his jaw.
I clear my throat, and he stops clenching his jaw and he looks at me.
"This is Acuma, one of my new friends from school."
His mother gives me a friendly smile and she pulls me into a hug. "It's a pleasure to meet you Acuma," I smile back at her.
"Me too, ma."
We all wait for a greeting from Luyolo's dad.
"Ndiya vuyela ukwazi ntombazana." he extends and arm and I shake it.
-Nice to meet you young lady.
He held himself with pride and definitely knew how to make a first impression.
He's the typa guy that walks into the room and all the attention went to him.Something Luyolo had in common with his father.
"She needs to get going, umamakhe umlindile ngaphandle." Luyolo say putting his hand in the pockets of his track pants.
-her mother is waiting for her outside.
"It was lovely meeting you. I hope that some day we can get to know each other better." Luyolo's mother says.
I give her a smile and we walk to the elevator.
"Well that was— awkward." I say squeezing the straps of my bag.
"All thanks to my father." his voice remains in a dark, gloomy tone.
"About that," I turn to look at him. "Are you guys like, beefing?"
He looks down at me, then looks up.
"I guess you say that, was it obvious?""Judging by the way you were staring at each other. Yes."
He lightly chuckles and takes me under his arms. "Can I ask why?" I ask as the elevator doors open.
We step out of the elevator and we stop in front of the door, facing each other.
He holds my right cheek and gives me a smile, that made me slightly uncomfortable.
"Lets just say, he's not who you think he is."That low-key gave me chills.
"Luyolo," I hold his bandaged hand. "What's going on in this house? Are you okay?"
He clenched his jaw.
"Don't worry about me, ndi zoba right." he says taking me under his arm.
-I'll be alright
It's hard to believe what he just said. Why did he just flip when he saw his dad?
We walk out of the mansion that I couldn't get over. It was high in the hills of Kensington and it was built like an hotel. The front yard was spacious and had a big pool.
He opens the gate and my mom was parked across the street typing on her laptop.
I look back at him with a frown. He opens his arms and I walk into his warm, big arms.
He bear hugs me and kisses my head.
