Jiayi entered the apartment, her voice echoing through the empty space, "I'm back!" Her words hung in the air as she closed the door behind her. Renjun, who had been engrossed in his task, immediately halted his movements and rushed towards her, concern etched on his face.
"What took you so long, missy? And what's that? How did you get hurt? Did someone hurt you?" Renjun bombarded her with a barrage of questions, his worry palpable. Jiayi let out a weary sigh.
"I... I fell down while coming from the convenience store," Jiayi replied, her voice tinged with a hint of deception. She hoped Renjun would believe her, sparing her the need to reveal the truth about her previous encounter.
Renjun's eyebrows furrowed, his worry refusing to dissipate completely. "You need to be more careful, Mèi. I worry about you," he chided gently, his voice filled with brotherly concern.
Jiayi nodded, acknowledging his words. "I will, Jun. I promise," she reassured him, grateful for his unwavering support.
After freshening up in her room, Jiayi made her way to the kitchen, her steps light and purposeful. The aroma of dinner filled the air, and she found Renjun already seated at the table, waiting for her to join him. They ate in companionable silence, savoring the flavors of the meal that Renjun had prepared.
Once their plates were empty, Jiayi and Renjun both rose, their stomachs satiated. Renjun gathered the dirty dishes and made her way to the sink, preparing to wash them. Jiayi, however, had different plans. She grabbed a dish towel and approached him, a playful smile on her face.
"I'll handle the dishes," Jiayi offered, her voice warm and comforting. Renjun hesitated for a moment before relinquishing his hold on the dishes, a grateful smile playing on his lips.
After washing the dishes, while she made her way towards her room, she caught a glimpse of Renjun preparing to leave, a bag slung over his shoulder. Curiosity piqued, she couldn't help but inquire about his plans.
"Are you going out Jun?" Jiayi asked, her voice filled with genuine curiosity. Renjun turned towards her, his expression indicating his impending absence.
"I won't be here for some few days. Something important came up." Renjun informed her, his voice tinged with a hint of worry. Jiayi's eyebrows arched in surprise, not expecting Renjun's sudden departure.
From the looks of it, he seemed worried about something so despite being curious, she didn't ask anything else. "Oh, alright," Jiayi replied, her tone a mixture of understanding and acceptance.
Renjun approached her, patting her shoulder. "I don't know how long I'll be there. We will meet at school but take care of yourself and don't do anything stupid dumbo.. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call."
Jiayi nodded, appreciating his concern. "I will, Jun. I'm not a kid. You be careful too!."
With a final farewell, Renjun left the apartment, his footsteps fading away in the distance. Jiayi stood there for a moment, the silence enveloping her. She contemplated how the night would unfold, with her being alone in the apartment.
Determined to make the most of her time, Jiayi retreated to her room, contemplating her next move. 'Ishould probably practice my blades'.
But since she couldn't do it in the apartment, she decided to go somewhere else, the abandoned alley. Even after what happened before, Yes!
She got changed. She covered herself in full black clothes. Black hoodie, black pants, black shoes and a black mask. She wanted to make sure no one would recognise her while with her blades.
She got out of the apartment and locked it. There were some few people walking in the street. After reaching the place, she carefully slided to the alley.
As the night wore on, Jiayi immersed herself in her chosen activities, her mind focused and determined.
With each passing moment, Jiayi embraced her solitude, cherishing the quiet strength that resided within her.
