Dear Alice,
You were always so...busy. There was always a crowd buzzing around you.
How could it be any different? You were the Queen around which their worlds revolved. The girls were pretty, the boys, handsome, and they were always dressed in the latest fashion.
I didn't stand a chance.I couldn't compete on that level, but I had other good qualities like honesty, integrity, loyalty, compassion, empathy. Writing this down does make me sound a little wimpy, but those are the things that make a person beautiful from within.
Right?
Wrong!
Whoever said that beauty comes from within, seriously lacked external beauty. I know what I'm talking about. I lacked it and was rejected for that very reason.
You attended an endless stream of parties, sleepovers, clubbing, and the flipside of your hyper-social life was that your grades dropped faster than the temperature at the North Pole.
It was then, and only then that you noticed me. You would flash a fake smile and like a mute fool, I would blush like a sun-ripened tomato. My friend Henry and I would spend hours completing your assignments and as a reward, I would get a peck on the cheek and a promise to call me soon.
I waited.
You never called.
I'm still waiting.
