"Attention new recruits!"
An officers voice lifts my eyes from the ground. I stand in the second row of about twenty other girls of varying ages between eighteen to thirty. They all seem in a relatively fit and healthy condition. However, some are holding back their tears and others are already standing like soldiers.
"Look around. Forget who you were and who you knew. There is no past, only the present and the future. We are Hydra. You are Hydra!""Hail Hydra!" a chorus of soldiers and officers chant in unison. Some of the girls I'm standing with copy, a clear sign of those who have chosen to be here and those who have not. We're split into smaller groups of six and shown to our dorm rooms. The room is basic with bunk beds with no other furnishing apart from a chest of draws to keep our uniforms and training gear in.
A female officer gives us a spiel about how things will be from now on. Three meals a day, academic classes in the morning and physical training in the afternoon. The men are trained in a separate area from the women and we are to keep to our own area at all times. Most of all, we are to forget everything we knew before walking into the training camp. The thing is, I didn't walk in, I was dragged against my will.
The officer leaves and four of my room mates start inspecting their beds and uniforms. I'm left standing in the middle of the room with one other girl staring teary eyed back at me.
"Hi, I'm Sadie. Want to be my bunk mate?" I introduce myself to the obviously nervous girl. She looks a similar age to me and I'm guessing she didn't chose to be here either.
"Hi, I'm Wanda and yes, thank you"
She gives me a small smile.I open the draw beside my bed to find two sets of training gear consisting of black leggings and a top as well as two sets of beige uniform. There are no personal belongings or anything that would make us individual. The clothes we are wearing will be disposed of once we change into our uniform.
We are assembled outside the dorm building and lead to a cafeteria for dinner. Most of the room is quiet except the sound of shifting shoes and cutlery. Hushed whispers spread across the tables but like myself, the new recruits keep their heads down and eat their meal in silence.
Wanda keeps close to me as we make our way back to our dorm. I can see her eyes are still red from crying. I wish I could comfort her but i don't think anything I could say would make it better.
Once washed, I tie my blonde hair back into a plait and get into bed. The lights go out and the clock on the wall shows 8:30pm. Although my body feels tired from the shock of the day, my mind is buzzing. Some of the girls whisper to one another, the only thing to break the silence. I take this moment to let one tear fall. I won't let anyone think I am weak. I will find away out of here.

"Sadie, you have to run! You have to get to the farm. The Barton's will keep you safe"
"No Steve, not without you!"
"There's no time Sadie, go, go now!"
I'm pushed in the opposite direction to where my brother is heading with only a small rucksack on my back and $100 in my pocket. The last I see of Steve is him disappearing into the woods that separate our town with the rail track and the world beyond. The Barton's are friends of our parents and their family farm is fifty hundred miles away. I've never met them but Steve believes they'd keep us hidden from Hydra. However, I never made it to the farm before I was captured by Hydra soldiers. Steve went back to help others on our street. He promised me that he'd help get my friend Kate out of town as well. I don't know if they made it to the farm or if they're somewhere in this camp along with me.
Anyone who fitted the criteria were recruited, either by choice or against their will. That's why we were on the run. We had to get far away before we had no choice. I hope Steve managed to get far away from here as possible. However, I don't know how I'll get out of here without him.
