ONE YEAR LATER
I stare at my beautiful wife smiling as we sit outside drinking tea and I think about the year that has passed.
To say it's been crazy would be an understatement. With the trials, opening SLIM, getting married, us moving, and finding out Mahara is pregnant this year couldn't have been crazier.
We moved into a big Victorian style house that's closer to Harrison's place weeks after Lenny told Mahara about their mom leaving Earl and true to my word I gave my old house to Lenny and Nevaeh.
They were overwhelmed with joy and Nevaeh couldn't stop thanking me. I'm happy her and Lenny are safe, but I'm happier that we left that house. It wasn't a home to us. The house we live in now is home. Soon after moving here Nevaeh got the courage to sit Lenny and Mahara down and explained everything that happened between her and Earl.
She thought they'd hate her when they found out, but it was opposite, they were actually happy that she told them and didn't blame her for anything. They cried about it for a long time, but in the end Mahara seemed relived to know.
Also, after they moved here Lenny finished out his senior year strong and he just started his freshman year at the University of Miami a few weeks ago and loves it. He makes really good grades and he even made lead quarterback on the football team and we're all so proud of him.
Liz started her classes too and was so excited they were going to classes together. They still have told people they're dating, but we all have a feeling they are.
Mahara didn't end up going back to classes in person, but still does them online so it would be easier when the baby comes.
I still can't believe she's pregnant. When we were in Brazil on our honeymoon Mahara asked me if I wanted kids, and before her I didn't. I never even thought about it before her. When I told her yes, she was so excited and threw her birth control out that day.
I've never told her about taking her birth control when we first started seeing each other, but in a way I'm happier that it was her choice that she wanted to have children with me.
Nothing was working when we first tried for a baby and I was getting nervous that something was wrong, but then four months ago she took a test after feeling bad that whole week. When we looked and seen it was positive we both cried on the bathroom floor hugging each other feeling over joyed.
I'm snapped out of daze to hear yelling.
"Come on! You guys are going to miss it!" Liz yells from inside and I help Mahara up walking with her to the living room where Harrison, Garrett, Lenny, and Nevaeh are sitting and we sit beside them.
"Turn it up." Lenny says to Liz and she does.
"...Emilia Sanchez has been sentenced to life in a mental health facility here in Florida after she pleaded insanity and was ruled unfit to stand trial...her brother Jeremy Sanchez pleaded guilty on all of his charges which included harassment, tampering with evidence, and involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after fifteen years..." the news reported continues to talk as I look at my wife to see tears in her eyes as she rubs a hand over her swollen stomach.
"It's over." She whispers and I kiss her cheek tasting her tears. "Yeah baby, it's over." She begins crying hugging me while everyone else cheers in celebration. She looks up wiping her tears laughing with joy and joins everyone cheering. Mahara sits back down groaning as she runs her belly.
"Are you okay? Is the baby okay?" I ask worriedly.
Her head falls back as she laughs, "Larson" she laughs more, "the baby is fine, I'm fine. I'm just cramping more today."
