Stress less. It was easier said then done, at least in Sylvie's mind it was.

That entire day at work all Sylvie did was stressed. Stressed for the little girl that had came barreling into their lives and caused her heart to burst. She didn't know what was going to happen, hell she didn't even know what was happening in that moment. All she knew, was that she had a little girl waiting for her when she finished shift and it couldn't make her heart any happier.

She was proud of herself though, she had managed not to message Cindy at all during the first half of her shift no matter how bad she wanted to. She knew that Cindy had her hands full and she also didn't want to seem overbearing and untrusting when Cindy was doing them such a big favour. By lunch though she couldn't handle it anymore so she sent off a quick text message that just stated 'Hows my girl? x'. It was long after she sent it, that she got a reply with a couple photos of Bella painting and eating her lunch. Sylvie sent off another quick reply before slipping her phone back into her pocket and heading into the kitchen to eat.

Sylvie was welcomed by almost the whole squad, probably one of the first time this month that no one was on a call or cleaning. She sat down and grabbed the paper, the front page causing her stomach to turn. The headline read "Major child exploitation ring investigated but no arrests made". It caused her heart to drop. She knew it was probably only time before those same men came back for Bella, she just hoped that it wasn't while she was at work. She would never forgive herself if Bella was hurt or taken while in her care.

She snapped out of her gaze momentarily when Stella cleared her throat, obviously trying to draw Sylvie's attention. Stella had read the paper before so she knew exactly what the blond was looking at, and the look on her face showed she felt the exact same way. "We'll protect her Brett, dont you worry." But she did worry. Because this girl had called her mom, accident or not. And this girl slept in her arms, and cooked with them and hell, she even brought Sylvie and Matt closer. So yes, she would worry.

----------------------------------------------------

Sylvie didn't see Matt for almost the whole day since dropping Bella off so she was almost relieved when the siren rang and they were all put on a call together. It wasn't something to major though but enough to get the blood pumping, two cars had collided sending one of the cars to hang off the side of a lakes edge. They hooked up the front of the vehicle to the firetruck to secure it, before pulling it forward enough that it had all four wheels safely on the ground. Sylvie was checking the people from the second car for injuries and Foster was checking over the people from the first car before the other ambulance arrived. They were all lucky, with what the paramedics could tell they had all walked out with minor cuts, contusions and a possible minor concussion which was the only one that agreed to go to the hospital. They allowed the second ambo to take them, leaving them on clean up crew with engine for the moment.

It wasn't until she heard Matt's voice that she realised they were done. she didn't want to admit it but she had been daydreaming again and hadn't actually helped to much with the pickup. She walked over to the fire truck, bumping into Casey just as he rounded the corner. "Oh god, sorry. I was just coming to find you actually." She blurted out, her cheeks red. He didn't seem to mind though, his face showing she had his full attention.

"I was wondering if when we get off work we take Bella to the park? She's been asking non stop and I feel a little bad leaving her all day." She stated, tilting her head slightly to the side. She held her hand out to full-time working mothers, she didn't know how they did it and she was in awe of them. She had only know Bella a few days, but already found it so hard to leave her which was unusual because Sylvie loved her job and helping people. She figured that was the reason she didn't want to leave the young girl, because of her want to give her the security she deserved..

"Yeah, that sounds like a great idea." Matt agreed, smiling slightly before her turned and opened the door to the truck. "Oh, and I messaged Cindy and she said Bella is doing great." With that Brett turned and went back over to the ambulance, a smile on her face the entire time as she climbed in and started it up, driving Foster and herself back to the station. It made her feel better, knowing that maybe Casey felt the same way she did, like an overprotective parent.

She was suddenly more excited to finish work though, not just to see Bella but to spend more time with just them and Matt. Once arriving back at the station she got out and finished off her notes, logging them before heading to the bunks. She was just about to go shower when her phone dinged with a message from Hailey. "Call me urgently." It simply read. She felt her stomach drop instantly.
