Chapter 1. Athena’s POV

I opened my eyes when I felt a tap on my head. When I looked at who it was,I found my brothers smiling face while looking at me.I smiled back as I touched and pats his head.

"Big sis". He said weakly as he looked at me.

"Hmmm?? Do you have something you want? Big sis will get it for you so don't hesitate to say it, ok??". I said in a low voice. He just smiles and reaches up his small hand to touch my cheeks and brush his palm there. I held his small hand and smiled while tears started to form in my eyes.

"You're so beautiful, Big sis". He suddenly blurted out of nowhere.My heart skipped a beat at his words. My eyes teared up and I hugged his little frame like I was holding him for the last time. 

"Big sis, I can't breathe" . I immediately let go of him as he chuckled weakly and I couldn't stop myself from thinking how long will that laugh remain in my ears. "No no no, Athena, be more positive, your brother will live no matter what, you won't let him die". I shout at myself. 

My brother was diagnosed with lung cancer,he had been fighting for his life since he was 5, and now that our parents died from a car crash, we can't afford his medicine anymore and his condition is getting worse everyday. If only our parents didn't die, we would be in a much better condition now, but they're gone, leaving me and my brother in this world.

I look at my brother as he starts to close his eyes again and soon fall asleep peacefully. Just watching him like that is enough for me as long as he's still breathing. 

I heard a knock on the door and I turned my head to the person who just came in. It was Braian's Doctor checking up on him.

"Good day,Miss Smith". She greeted as her emerald eyes and long brown hair is perfectly paired up by her sweet beautiful smile plastered on her face. "God, she's beautiful".I said to my mind

She looks 2 years older than me,probably 26 I think.

"Good day Doc" I greeted back with a smile. She then starts to check on my brother's condition just like how she should.

"How's my brother's condition doc??".I ask hoping for a better answer I know I wouldn't get. She stops what she's doing and looks at me with Sad eyes. I know what those looks mean and it broke my heart to pieces.

"For now, He is safe". She started. "But not for long.. he needs an operation sooner or else..... ".She paused and looks down at my brother. "it will be too late for us to save him". I know it but i still can't accept the fact that my brother dont have much time to live, our last hope is getting him an operation but I can't afford the money for it. 

The doctor patted me on my back and looked at me in a pitiful way before going out the door.If only a miracle can happen right now, I would do everything in exchange for it.

I look at my brother's sleeping frame and my eyes welled up as I started to cry. I hold his hand while sobbing.

"Hang in there bro *sniffs* Big sis will find a way to get you an operation ok?? ". I cried for a while and then wiped the tears that fell on my cheeks.

I checked my phone hoping to see any messages from the jobs I applied but there were none and I'm completely heartbroken. 

I stopped schooling during my 2nd year of college to work in a small cafe to feed my brother and me but then his condition got worse and I can't stay like that anymore. I tried to look for jobs but they all want college graduates and I didn't have a chance to find a job that pays a big amount.

No, I can't be like this, I need to be strong for my brother. He's the only family I had left and I can't afford to lose him no matter what or I'll end up crazy. I resorted to my one last hope.I kissed his forehead before going out and dialing my best friend's number. Two Rings and she picked it up.

"Hi Girl, How's it going??". She acts normal but I know that she knows what I'm feeling right now. I keep quiet for a moment before speaking again.

"Ashley,, uhmmmmm do you have any job you know that I can apply for??.. jobs that will help me earn big money??". I asked in a broken voice, there was a pause in the other line for a moment before she spoke again.

"I found a job for a maid, it pays 30 thousand dollars a month, however it would mean you will see your brother less frequently,, are you up for it??". Suddenly a big smile appeared on my face. 30 thousand dollars just for being a maid?? Hell damn I'm so up to it, its a big amount and I can save up for my brother's operation . I quickly replied to her.

"Yes, yes i'm up for it, where is it??". I said with a lot of hope running to my mind. It would mean i can't see my brother a lot but at least we will have a bigger chance for him to live.

"Hang on, I'll send you the address and contact number." She said and seconds later I received a text message from her ,,My eyes literally squealed up with joy.

"Thank you, thank you bishh, I love you so much". I keep thanking her for giving me this opportunity. 

" You're always a welcome girl, and also don't worry about who's going to take care of your brother while you're gone, Just leave it up to me". I can feel her smiling while rooting for me at the same time in the other line. Even if I will see my brother rarely from now on,I have to endure it for him. 

Wasting no time I dialed the number Ashley sent me to apply for the job.

I hope this could be the answer to my prayers or the other way around.
