The car ride to school was silent. Once my dad parked I slammed the door and marched into school. I had no desire to talk to him at all. I walked up to my locker and opened it. I shoved my books inside my backpack, hardly paying attention to my surroundings. I slammed my locker door shut and Billy startled me.
"You okay? Seems like you're having a ruff morning," Billy sighed, leaning on the lockers, and touching up his blonde hair.
"Sorry. My dad won't let me go to the party. Which sucks because he wants me to make friends, and I can't if I don't go. I tried convincing him, but it didn't work," I grumbled, leaning back on the lockers.
"Like I said. I can drive you if you want. Just tell me your address and I can pick you up. You know, secret about it,"
"I don't know. If my dad finds out, I'll be grounded for life,"
"Your dad sounds like an asshole if I'm being honest," Billy sighed.
"He's not an asshole. He's just very protective of me. And I hate it,"
"Well. Have you ever snuck out?"
"I mean, I have. But never from a second story,"
"Well, I have and I can show you all the tricks,"
Billy and I started talking and we both lost track of time. The bell rang, and I walked off to my class. I sat down next to Nancy and class started. I just had to bite my time till tonight when Billy would help me sneak out. I was kind of excited to break the rules and go out with a boy. I had never done it when I was living with my mom.
The bell rang and I packed my things up. I headed to my locker and began packing my things up. I looked around, waiting for Nancy or Jonathan to show up, but nobody except the boy in the blue bomber jacket from yesterday showed up. He slid something into Nancy's locker and then looked at me. He was wearing a green vest and a long-sleeved blue and white shirt, along with some jeans and Converse.
"You're new aren't you?" he asked, leaning on the lockers.
"Yeah,"
"Well, it's nice to meet you...?"
"Avery. Avery Clarke,"
The boy stuck his hand out and I shook it. He smiled and I looked into his brown eyes. His hair was perfectly done and fit him. He opened his mouth to say something but then was cut off by Tommy.
"Back off Harrington. She's our friend,"
"Friend?"
"Yeah. Beat it, Harrington," Carol snickered.
The boy dropped his hand to his side and stared at Tommy and Carol. He grumbled something under his breath before leaving. I turned back to Tommy and Carol, confused.
"Who was he?" I asked, curious.
"Nobody. Stay away from him. He's a dickhead," Tommy growled.
"Anyway, what are you wearing to the party tonight?" Carol asked.
"I have no clue," I muttered, not sure whether to tell them or not.
Tommy, Carol, and I started walking and talking. I wanted to find out who that boy was, but they just kept refusing to tell me. They seemed to be enemies. All they told me, was that this boy turned his back to them.
Once the very long day was over, I headed outside, just wanting to be home. That's when I caught sight of Billy leaning on his car. His jean jacket showed off his biceps. I looked around to see if my dad was watching, before heading over to him.
