"Come on guys. I have been waiting for the last thirty minutes! Pick up the damn pace!" I shouted, pissed because they were making me late. Again. For the third time this week.
I tapped my foot waiting on the kids. Lucas, Max, and Will all walked out of Lucas' house. They all grabbed their bikes, and I got on mine. I still didn't have my license to drive, so I had to bike. It sucked, but I was fine with it. At least I got to hang out with the kids.
"I still don't understand why you have to babysit us. We're old enough to go to the mall on our own," Lucas groaned, getting on his bike.
"I'm going to go see..." I began before getting cut off by Max.
"Steve..." Max groaned, rolling her eyes.
"Yes, yes, yes, we know," Lucas muttered, following Max's lead and rolling his eyes.
"Seriously? You guys are not supposed to be in my dating life," I laughed.
"You talk about Steve all the time. And you guys babysit us all the time together," Max answered. "Which we DO NOT need babysitters anymore," I crossed my arms and stared at the kids. They were so ignorant.
The four of us began biking and once we arrived at the Mall we all parked our bikes. I watched as people headed in and out of Starcourt Mall. It had become such a popular spot since it opened, and downtown Hawkins was becoming a ghost town. There were huge age gaps from people: babies to elderly people. I took in as many people, seeing if Becky and Zoe were joining the crowd, but they hadn't. So, I was in the clear. I checked my watch to see if Mike was going to be late, again, but he finally showed and parked his bike in the bike rack. "You're late," Lucas mumbled.
"Sorry!"
"Again, Wheeler. This can't happen all the time. He's got a very short window and you could possibly lose it being late," I snapped, tapping my watch repeatedly.
"We're gonna miss the opening," Will complained, throwing his hands to his side.
"Yeah, if you keep whining about it. Let's go," Mike groaned, rolling his eyes and joining us.
"If you guys keep whining about it. Nyeh-nyeh-nyeh," Lucas mocked him, revicing a glare from Mike. Luca ignored him and made puppet hands before turning back to the group as they turned around.
"Just please stop talking, dude. Also, why is Avery here?"
"You want to get into the movies. It's a two-person job...but I'm also here to see..."
"Steve. I know," Mike groaned.
"Why does everybody have to say it like that?" I groaned as we headed inside. "He's not a bad person," I held the door open for them but then had to hold it open for a sweet old couple. I had to catch up with the group, who didn't get that far. They weren't that fast.
"Because it's public knowledge. That The Steve Harrington is dating Avery Clarke and it's going very, very, well," Mike replied almost immediately, picking up the conversation, like he was there the whole time. My mouth dropped open but I shut it and came up with a response.
"Okay, wow. Just because our relationship has lasted longer than most and it's healthy, doesn't mean it has to be public knowledge. I'm just here to get you guys from point A to point B," I grumbled. Lucas glanced at me before taking the whole conversation in a different direction.
"Okay. Mike. Let me take a wild guess. You were busy," Lucas finished his sentence by smacking his lips together and making a smooching sound.
"Oh, yeah, real mature Lucas," Mike mumbled.
