Sunday 30th 1985
I woke up, half of my body hanging off the side of my bed. I stumbled out of bed, and grabbed the nearest t-shirt. I headed downstairs and into the kitchen. I was hungry and I wanted to get breakfast out of the way, but that wasn't going to be the case, probably.
"Morning sweetheart," my dad announced, as I grabbed a bagel.
"Morning Dad,"
"Did you forget that we have guests?"
Guests. I cursed myself mentally. My eyes shot wide open and I looked up at the kitchen table. There was a short brown haired boy sitting at the table, looking at me. He looked me up and down and I did the same.
"Morning," I mumbled.
"Morning," he replied, nonchalant. Not a morning person, got it.
"Why don't you come sit down with us?" my dad suggested.
I slowly headed to the table and took a seat across from the brown haired boy. He just stared me down and I ate my bagel. It was like he was having a staring contest with me.
"So. Avery. This is Jessie. Jessie, this is Avery,"
The boy stuck his hand out across the table and I shook it. He sat back in his chair and crossed his arms. I copied his actions, not on purpose but i believe he thought it was, since he sat up and leaned his arms on the table.
"So. You wanted to talk this morning?" I asked, trying to get out of the house as quick as possible.
"You'll be showing Jessie around Hawkins today. You know, since he's going to become a part of our family,"
"I'm sorry. Dad, I can't I have plans. I'm busy," I admitted, turning to him. It was the truth. I had plans.
"You're showing Jessie around today, that's not changing,"
"But Dad!" I pleaded.
Last time dad was like this, was last year when he wouldn't let me go to the Halloween party, total mistake, but I did meet Steve. He was the best dad in the whole world, but sometimes he just got a little protective. Maybe he should be, but maybe he should letting me live in the real world for a change.
"No excuses,"
I stood up and shoved my chair back. I stomped upstairs and slammed my door shut. A little aggressive. I grabbed a pair shorts and another t-shirt. I changed into them and went into the bathroom, when their was a knock at my door.
"I'm coming!"
The knocking didn't stop, and I hurried out of my bathroom. I swung the door open only to see Jessie standing there.
"Hi,"
"What do you want?" I asked, gritting my teeth.
"You seemed pissed about showing me around," he said. I wanted to reply with a sarcastic remark but decided against it. Even though he was stating the obivous.
"Yeah. I am, because I had plans with my boyfriend," I replied, staring him in the eyes.
"So, my new sister has a boyfriend. Interesting," Jessie muttered, pushing his way past me into my room. "So. Give me the basic run down of Hawkins so that we can both get on with our lives and so that we don't have interact with each other."
Did this kid not learn personal space when he was younger? "Jessie, right?" I asked, turning back to face Jessie.
"Yeah,"
"Okay, Jessie. My boyfriend is going to be here any minute. So you can just show yourself the door and yourself around or I can get one of my friends to show you around," I suggested, ready to throw Jessie out of my room.
