6. School

Since the gang are not able to go to school normally, they have to be homeschooled. Most of the time, they learn by themselves but sometimes they get a teacher who helps them with their schoolwork. The main reason why the kids do school while living in a hospital is to have a better future once they go back home. The hospital gives children a study room that is assigned to a different group of children every day.

"I don't like school at all," Mitch said to the others while they were sitting down on the big table in the study room.

"Me neither, doing homeschooling is boring, I get distracted very easily," Matt said with a big sigh.

"What are you guys doing right now?" Kirstie asked.

"Physics, it's pretty boring," Scott said honestly.

"Anatomy," Kevin answered. He's always wanted to be a doctor in the future.

"Math and I don't understand it," Matt said shaking his head while looking at the exercises he had to do with a confused face.

"English, the only subject I kind of enjoy," Mitch said. "What about you Kitty?" Mitch asked.

"Spanish, I am learning it because it is part of who I am," Kirstie said with a smile.

"Don't you guys miss going to an actual school?" Matt asked after a while.

"I kind of do. I never got any high school experience so I'm curious about it. But I was also bullied in elementary and middle school, that's something I don't miss at all," Mitch said.

"Why were you bullied?" Kevin asked.

"For having a high voice, being more feminine, and having anxiety. For other kids, I was a weirdo," Mitch answered.

"I do miss school too. I miss some of my friends and the activities I used to do outside of the school, like playing cello," Kevin said chuckling.

"That's sick. I didn't know you could play the cello," Matt said surprised.

"I do. I haven't practiced in a while though," Kevin told the others.

"School for me was mostly choir and theater. Surprisingly enough, we were the cool kids," Kirstie said proudly.

"I used to do theater when I was younger, it helped with being shy," Mitch said and Kirstie took his hand.

"I used to do theater too and take voice lessons. Now I practice singing here," Scott said.

"I can vaguely remember my time at school. I went until...third grade, I think? I don't remember. Then...I came here, and all the times I have been in remission I did homeschooling too. I'm used to it now," Scott said. "I do wish I could go back and go to high school as well," he continued.

"Imagine if we went together once we got out of here. It would be so cool!" Matt exclaimed happily and everyone laughed at him.

"That will be awesome. I think we all felt like weirdos in a way in the past because of what people would say about us, but if we get to go together, we can be weirdos together," Kevin said.

"I can't wait for that to happen. It was hard for me to make friends when I was younger and now I have you guys and my Scotty boy all to myself," Mitch said, kissing Scott's cheek he flushed looking down, making Mitch giggle.

"Cuties," Kirstie whispered but Mitch heard.

"What do you guys want to be when you grow up?" Scott asked while Mitch sat down on his lap.

"I wanna be an actress and be in musicals," Kirstie said happily.

"Cool! I wanna be a singer and perform for millions," Scott said, ever since he was a little kid he loved singing and that was his biggest dream, but somewhere deep in him told him that it wasn't possible.

"I wanna work in the fashion business. Maybe one day, I could design your outfits guys," Mitch said giggling.

"I wanna be a doctor and help others, just like the doctors here have helped all of us," Kevin said.

"You'll do it Kev. You are an actual genius, med school should be easy for you," Matt said and Kevin thanked him.

"I don't know. I have to wait and see," Matt said.

"We are still young, and people don't ask us what we want to be in the future because of our illnesses, we don't have to let this stop us from doing whatever we want. We are all strong and that's something to be proud of," Scott said and everyone looked at him with a lot of admiration, Scott was right.
