15. You did it!

"Today, I get to ring the bell!" Mitch came downstairs while singing and jumping. His parents chuckled at their son's excitement. It is a very special day for Mitch, he is going to the hospital to ring the bell and get some quick lab work done. "Who is coming today?" Mitch asked his parents before sitting down at the table, he could not have breakfast just yet because he needed to get some lab work done.

"Everyone is coming. Although Scott never confirmed. I talked to Connie and she said Scott doesn't want to go back to the hospital before he has to, but he will be here afterward," she explained Mitch nodded, quite disappointed but he tried to understand Scott, he hasn't been home in a long time and wanted to take advantage of all the time he got.

When Mitch and his parents arrived at the hospital, they went to the Oncology area and were surprised to see the balloons and flowers the nurses and doctors had ready for Mitch. The gang was there as well, even Scott, they were able to convince him to come. Mitch was taken to a chair to get some of his blood drawn. "Alright, Mitch. You know we need to keep testing you every once in a while to keep track of your remission," a nurse explained and then tied the tourniquet around his arm.

After getting his test done, Mitch started walking his way down to the bell with his parents following. Nurses were clapping at him and Dr. Hayes was there next to the bell, Mitch took a deep breath and rang the bell three times. "You did it!" Matt yelled excitedly and the gang hugged him tightly afterward and so did Mitch's parents and Dr. Hayes.

When they were done at the hospital, the Grassis took the gang to a brunch restaurant where Mike and Nel gave Mitch some good news. "Son, now that you are no longer sick, we decided to roll you for high school," Mike said, and everyone gasped.

"Really?" Mitch asked excitedly.

"Yeah, baby. You need the high school experience and socialize with people outside the hospital," Nel said.

"But I've never been good with talking to people," Mitch pointed out.

"Kevin will be there with you," Mike explained, and Kevin looked up with a surprised expression on his face, he was so focused on the food that he wasn't paying attention to the conversation.

"You'll be in the same high school," Nel said, and Mitch sighed, relieved. "That's good to know," he said with a big smile, and he and Kevin hugged.

It was a few hours later when Scott and Mitch were lying down on Mitch's bed watching a movie, when Mitch thanked Scott for showing up today at the hospital to ring the bell.

"I couldn't miss it," Scott said.

"Your mom said you didn't want to go at first because you didn't want to go back to the hospital before the time you're supposed to."

"Yes. I just hate thinking about the fact that next time I get back, I will be alone and will do more treatment and possibly clinical trials," Scott explained, frowning.

"Do you want to do the trials?"

"No. I don't want to be in any more pain. I'm getting tired of fighting. Although I haven't decided yet between keep on fighting or stopping treatment." Mitch started to tear up. He understood why Scott was saying all of this.

"What treatment are they doing when you go back?"

"Spinal chemo. I heard it hurts a lot," Scott said with a shaky voice, and he and Mitch started crying, holding each other tightly.

"Promise me," Scott started. "That you'll support my decision even if it means I am willing to die," he continued staring at Mitch.

"I promise," he said, looking at Scott's cannula, "but you gotta promise me that you'll be strong and fight till the very end."

"I promise," Scott said, and then Mitch kissed him, telling Scott that he was proud of him.

"I just wanna be there for you," Mitch said.

"You're here," Scott replied, and Mitch rolled his eyes.

"You know what I mean," he said, and Scott chuckled.

"I'm proud of you. You suffered from cancer for four years, and now you're all healthy again," Scott said, laying his head on Mitch's chest, holding his boyfriend close to him.

"You did it," Scott whispered before falling asleep.
