Knee-jerk

The city was bustling and lively at the current time. People everywhere, talking, laughing and chatting. They seemed to have no troubles getting by in the world, and it was very much the opposite of the Cloud Recesses. The place was buzzing with energy.

They walked through the marketplace together. Gu Wei couldn't help but feeling like a tourist here. His eyes roamed from stall to stall and shop to shop. The smell of roasted me mingling with the sweet aroma of freshly made buns from vendors selling them entered their noses.

Oh! Smell so good!

Gu Wei had been eating bland food for more than couple of weeks now and as a normal human who had been raised with good food and variety of delicacies. Although he wasn't that much of food enthusiast or picky about food, he was practically on strict vegetarian diet (perhaps it qualified as vegan too) for so long now, the aroma of street food that wafting through the air almost made him drool. Also, as a (former) licensed medical practitioner who believed in the importance of balanced diet, he had been feeling like he was lacking on protein in his diet. He had never skipped meat and poultry for this long that he was craving for some.

"Do you want one?" Lan Wangji asked when Gu Wei slowed down near a stall that was selling meat skewers.

Gu Wei nodded and before he could say anything else, Lan Wangji immediately went and bought some for him. "Oh... Thank you, Lan Zhan." He said as he accepted it happily.

"No need." Lan Wangji reminded him.

A grateful smile graced Gu Wei's face as he bite into hot skewers that smelled divine. He hummed in approval when the taste spread onto his taste buds. He felt like he just ended a streak of long fasting now.

Ah! So good! I never knew that I would miss eating this kind of food!

Gu Wei then noticed that Lan Wangji was just staring at him as he was eating.

Uh... Why is he staring? Does he want some?

"Do you want some?" He asked, handing a skewers to the alpha.

"It's fine." Lan Wangji declined softly. "Eat."

Then, stop staring at me while I am eating.

Thinking back, Gu Wei noticed that it is already past noon. Lan Wangji had yet to eat anything. "But Lan Zhan, you must be hungry." He pointed out. "Just take it and eat, okay?"

Lan Wangji replied quietly, "...I never eat meat before."

Gu Wei raised a brow, "Never?"

"Never."

Good Heavens. Then, how did you get so jacked up? How did you even develop those firm and sturdy muscles of yours??

"..." Gu Wei didn't know what to think of that. He wasn't sure if he should say something but in any case, his instinct as a doctor took over. "Well, Lan Zhan. You need protein in your diet. You are still growing. You need balanced nutrients for optimal growth and development. Especially when you are always training. Your muscle needs protein for faster recovery and maintenance," He finished in a stern voice.

Lan Wangji stared blankly into Gu Wei's concerned gaze as though he was in a big dilemma. He then closed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh before replying, "Okay."

Gu Wei gave a wide grin. "Great! Here." He held the skewer to Lan Wangji's mouth and waited patiently until the alpha took a bite.

After the first bite, Gu Wei saw Lan Wangji's expression change in the slightest.

Lan Wangji looked mildly surprised, but otherwise he seemed to be happy with the flavor. He then took the skewer from Gu Wei's hand to eat another bite silently.
