Nie Huaisang and Jiang Cheng exchanged glances once again.
"You don't remember who Wen Qing is?" Jiang Cheng asked cautiously.
"Well, of course." Gu Wei replied, shrugging. "That's how amnesia works, isn't it?"
Technically, I didn't lose any of my memories tho. But whatever. That is the only logical explanation they need to hear.
Jiang Cheng gritted his teeth in annoyance. The smartass, with his memory intact or not, always managed a snarky remark and got on his nerves. He spat, "You probably should go and see her. Maybe she can help you with that shitty brain problem you are having." He then added sarcastically, "And maybe the memory lost too."
Gu Wei raised a brow. "What do you mean by that?"
"Maiden Wen is an expert in healing." Lan Wangji answered on behalf, intrigued by the notion. The physicians in Cloud Recesses couldn't find any fault with Gu Wei that led to his current state, so he thought, maybe Wen Qing could properly treat his omega.
Even if she is, I don't think that Maiden Wen can heal something I don't actually have. But perhaps I can see what this world's medical system has to offer.
Gu Wei then realized something. He couldn't help but ask, "You said yesterday's trap was ochestrated by Wen Chao. Is this Maiden Wen you're talking about affiliated with them?"
Jiang Cheng shook his head, "She's maybe a Wen but she is not really with the clan. If she is, she wouldn't have the intention to save you guys." He remarked. "Actually, she may be still at Dafan mountain dealing with the human puppets as we speak. We should help her."
The mention of human puppet made Gu Wei frown and felt slightly nauseous just thinking about being in that situation again. He questioned, "You want us to return to that dangerous place? Are you insane?"
"Since when are you a coward?" Jiang Cheng shot back irritably. "Grow some balls would you?"
It's not about being a coward. It's about being smart! Why would I run back into a slaughterhouse that is waiting to kill me??
"No, I'm perfectly fine with two. I don't need extra balls," Gu Wei replied casually. "It won't bring any benefits if you have more-"
"Seriously?!" Jiang Cheng interrupted incredulously. "Are you willing to let a lady handle all those human puppets by herself? Where's your conscience?"
Oh, just punch me next time! You just hit the critical point with that!
Gu Wei wanted to retort but he wasn't a selfish person; he might not have guts but he does have guilty conscience. As a doctor who had sworn *Hippocratic Oath, he couldn't simply abandon someone knowing that they might be in danger. Besides, this mission he was on with Lan Wangji was about solving the human puppet case. He looked up to Lan Wangji to see him staring down at him intently.
Lan Wangji had a serious expression as he spoke, "I won't force you, Wei Ying. But this is our best lead at the moment."
If you say it like this, I will look like a real coward if I don't go.
Gu Wei took a deep breath. "...Alright. I'll go."
At least, compared to last night, we know what we are dealing with now. It should be safer, right?
"I won't let you get hurt this time. I promise." Lan Wangji stated firmly. And he meant it. His eyes said so as they twinkled with determination while boring deep into Gu Wei’s very soul, tugging it.
Ah, what a charmer.
"Okay." Gu Wei smiled, feeling a little bit like he was being wrapped in a cozy blanket by Lan Wangji's earnest declaration.
