"Wei Ying. How do you know all that?" Lan Wangji asked Gu Wei.
Gu Wei bit his lower lip, trying to formulate an answer before he settled for, "You know, I read a lot. There are plenty of medical texts available to read in the library." He lied, trying to sound convincing. "I just put the theories into practice."
Lan Wangji narrowed his eyes slightly. There were indeed many books and scrolls in the Pavilion Library but some words that Gu Wei uttered earlier sounded foreign in his ears. Regardless, he could tell that Gu Wei were not just knowledgeable in medicine but he also seemed to be trained in hands-on practice. He, however, did not want to question why the omega hid his skills. At least, not at the presence of others.
Gu Wei cleared his throat, "The patient still needs further intervention." He reminded, "If Lan Daifu can focus on healing on the inner injuries around the chest wall, please do so urgently. Most probably he has some rib fractures that punctured the wall and caused that air leak." He said, trying to keep his words as simple as possible.
The healer casted a look at Gu Wei for a second, "He indeed has several rib fractures." He informed; he did find out about the broken bones when he ran the quick assessment earlier. He was quite impressed by the accuracy of Gu Wei's diagnosis. But this was not the time for admiration or questions. He then proceeded with the urgent treatment, focusing his healing Qi to flow into the patient's upper meridian pathway to fix the broken bone, repairing the ruptured membranes, cells by cells.
Gu Wei exhaled a relief sigh as the attention of the crowd gradually moving away from him, although some still glanced a curious look at him once in a while. He then looked around, noticing many patients were still unattended. He grasped that the triage system was applied in this situation, it was only logical that the critical ones would be the priority. He knew that this was how it should work; this is what he had learned in his years being a doctor. Besides, the ratio of medics to patients was approximately one to thirty or more. In other words, they were severely short staffed. That being said, he couldn't ignore his instinct as a doctor to attend to those who needed his expertise and care. So, he helped with the patients as much as he could without being intrusive to the healers' duties. Lan Wangji didn't stop him, instead, he too started helping around as well.
That was how it came to this current point where Lan Wangji stared intensely at Gu Wei who was busy attending to an elder, stitching the inner parts of the open abdominal wound with expert hands. His eyes followed the movement of needle and threads across the elder's exposed muscles layer, his mind unable to stop thinking about how good adept the man was at it. Even when he already concluded that the omega has excellent medical knowledge through his observation, the alpha never expected Gu Wei would have this level surgical skill. He recalled the time when his fated person said that he dissected a brain before. More questions began to pile up.
Hours ago, when Gu Wei saw that this person with apparent sword wound and severely distended abdomen, which was as hard as a board indicating massive internal bleeding, he couldn't help himself. He knew that the man would probably die if he didn't receive a surgical intervention in a timely manner. Judging by the weak pulse and the blanched white lips, he could tell that the person was going into a hemorrhagic shock. The acupoint pressure to stop bleeding was useless at this point. "He needs a surgery. We need to open him up and stop the bleeding manually. " He suggested. "I can help."
The attending healer was surprised to hear that suggestion. "What? Surgery? You?" he echoed.
"Do you even know what surgery is?" The earlier healer asked. Part of him was genuinely curious of what the young man was capable of.
"Yes, I know." Gu Wei answered matter of factly. "And I also know that, that person will go into shock and eventually die if we don't do surgery anytime soon."
The attending healer seemed taken aback by the young omega statement but before he could say anything else, the patient started to cough a copious amount of blood. The other healers were all busy with their own patients to help him out.
"Look, now is not the time for talking. Patient's life takes priority!" Gu Wei stated.
"He's right." The earlier healer said.
That shut the other up after that. "I will get the surgical equipment immediately," He then turned to Gu Wei, "I hope you know what you're doing."
"I do." Gu Wei said as he nodded and went back to focusing his attention towards the patient, assessing the severity of the damage. "Lan Zhan, please get me a basin of water and if possible, a lot of clean towels." He told Lan Wangji.
Lan Wangji agreed immediately, "Okay." He moved as fast a lightning to get the items needed.
"Lan Daifu, can you focus on stabilizing his blood pressure?" Gu Wei asked the attending healer who promptly nodded, channeling his spiritual energy through the patients in controlled manner.
Gu Wei looked at the surgical kits that was available and he couldn't help but sigh deeply. Of course, he didn't expect a scalpel or diathermy or basically all the usual modern surgical instruments that he was used to, but the principles were there. He could make it work. This is the world of magic and spells after all. And he finally could apply the the theories of talismans that he inherited in practice. Medical practice. He took the blade that was meant for cutting and applied a talisman on it, heating the sharp edge until it was hot enough to look a little red.
"What is that for?" The healer asked, looking perplexed at the glowing knife edge.
"To cauterize as I cut and prevent more blood loss." Gu Wei answered without hesitation.
Usually, a healer would use their spiritual energy to mend the wound, repairing the injuries through the means of cultivation and acupoint pressure techniques to control bleeding. And a lot of times, a severely injured person would die because healing with spiritual energy took too much time and acupressure points were barely useful for internal injuries at at this scale. Very rarely they would perform a surgery since it could lead to more blood loss and damages.
But not for Gu Wei. If there is anything that he was exceptional at, it is surgery. He was appointed as a chief gastrointestinal surgeon at a young age for this reason.

Medical terms:
Surgical diathermy: high frequency alternate polarity radio-wave electrical current to cut or coagulate tissue during surgery. It allows for precise incisions to be made with limited blood loss and is now used in nearly all surgical disciplines.
