I'm Melody. I am homeless and orphaned. It's not an ideal living arrangement. I live behind a record store and often come in just to browse. I am great friends with the daughter of the store owner. Her name is Amy. She knows I'm an orphan, but doesn't know I'm homeless. I just don't want to be stuck in an adoption center. I'm scared people will judge me there, so I wander the streets and beg for money.
I walk in the record store and see Amy behind the counter.
"Hey." I said to her.
She looked up and smiled "Hi." She came from behind the counter and up to me. "So, there's this Black Veil Brides concert this weekend. I got a ticket for myself." She said.
"That's cool." I said
"I'm sorry I can't take you, I only had enough for one ticket." She said.
I nodded "It's okay. I'm sure I can get one for myself." I told her.
"Will the orphanage let you?" She asked.
"I'm sure they will." I asured her. I looked at the time "I better go. It's almost lunch time." I said before walking out.
"Bye." She said and waved.
"Bye." I said back then waved at her.
"I need to get money, fast." I whispered to myself then took off to the highway. I found some cardboard and a sharpie and quickly wrote 'hungry, broke and homeless' and found a random solo cup on the side of the street and stood there and waited for people to look at me. A tour bus came up to the red light and stopped after I had collected $16. The door then opened and I got a little scared. Were they gonna rob me?
Out came a man in leather garb and teased hair. His make up look familer...
"Ashley Purdy?" I asked in a bit of shock.
"Hey, so you recognize me." He said. I nodded. "Come on. The guys want to treat you to some food and a comfortable bed for the day."
I smiled and hesitantly got on the bus. I saw the guys and my eyes widened.
Jinxx sat on the couch on his phone, CC was pouring himself some coffee, Jake was adjusting his guitar, and Andy was laying in his bed. I stood there star struck.
Ashley put a hand on my shoulder "So, what's your name?" He asked.
"Um, Melody." I said.
Then the guys looked at me. I froze. They all smiled. Andy stood up. "So this is the girl on the street?" He asked. I nodded slightly. He pulled out something from under his bed. It was a luggage tote. He pulled out a brush then patted the spot next to him, gesturing to sit. I smiled and sat. He started brushing my hair.
"So..." CC said. "How'd you end up on the street?" He asked.
"Uh, well..." I started. I took a deep breath. "My parents got robbed when they were home while I was at school. They were both shot and killed. When I got home and saw them, I didn't want to live in a foster home, so I grabbed some things and ran." I said.
CC's eyes grew wide. "W-wow." He said.
"How old are you?" Jake asked.
"Fifteen." I said.
"Alright. Go to the mirror over there." Andy said then pointed to it. "I'm gonna straighten your hair." He said. I went over to it and sat down. Andy plugged in the straightener then pulled up a chair and sat behind me.
"Um, can I talk to you guys?" Jinxx asked all of the guys. They all stood up and walked over to him. They closed the curtain to the beds. I sat there in silence looking at all of the things in front of the mirror. Then I saw myself. It's been so long since I saw myself in the mirror, I forgot what I looked like. I was dirty and my clothes were torn. I forgot I had green eyes. My ginger hair is no longer tangled thanks to Andy, but it was greasy. I had a small scratch on my cheek. Maybe it was a cat that got me in the middle of the night as I slept. I looked at my teeth. They were pretty yellow. I need to go to a dentist for a deep clean. I closed my mouth. It was gross. I sighed and waited for them to finish talking. I fiddled with my thumbs then I heard the curtain pull back. Andy sat back behind me and grabbed something off the desk.
"This us dry shampoo. It'll make your hair less greasy." He said then tilted my head back then shook the stuff into my hair then ruffled it in my hair. I looked back into the mirror. It did look less greasy. He grabbed the straightener and straightened my hair. When he was done, he unplugged the straightener. He spun my chair around to face him. "We're not done yet." He said then stood up and went to the sink, grabbed a rag and put it under the water. He put some soap on it and wringed it out. He sat in front of me again and wiped my face. The rag was cold, but I was happy to be cleaned. He then grabbed my hands and cleaned them. He then stood up and said "we're gonna get you some new clothes." He said.
I smiled and then gave a confussed look "Why are you helping me?" I asked.
"You're fifteen. You souldn't be on the streets. You should be enjoying your teen years." He said then sat back down in the chair "I was sixteen when I started this band. Not with these guys, but with other people." He said. "No one in this band wants you on the street, or in an adoption center."
Jinxx then came over to me "How would you like to be adopted?" He asked.
I raised an eyebrow and asked "By who?"
"By me." Jinxx said.
I smiled.
