Unbelievable!
"No! This looks too dull. Wear something else, something nice. "
This is the sixth time Mom has told me to change my clothes. And... I'm in no mood for that. I feel like a mannequin that's supposed to lure people by putting nice clothes on display.
To help you understand the situation clearly, I'm getting ready to meet "The Girl" my parents have chosen for me to marry...With my head hanging low I went back in my room and changed into an all black suit to which my mother had to say...
"Yeh kya hai? Kaala daanav banke jayega, darrayega ladki ko?"
(what is this? Looking like a black demon, are you trying to scare the girl away?)
She said with scrunched up nose to give me a displeased look. But surprisingly my Dad helped me out here by making the excuse of getting late.
With my mother's guidelines on how to make her feel welcomed and respected and my Dad's wishes, I left my home.
I'm in an impossible situation. I just can't bring myself to do this. I have tried calling Aashi in these past six days but they were never answered.
Determined, but scared I am walking down the street, heading towards the arranged meeting. I have to tell this girl the truth. I owe her that much.
I arrived at the café. As usual, the bells chimed, the temperature was warmer inside. People were busy minding their own business. The sun rays were peeking inside through the window. Her favorite spot.
There was a girl dressed in traditionals. Wearing a green suit with a short denim jacket, oxidized jewelry, staring down at her phone screen. She looks equally uncomfortable as I am. There's no-one around her. Oh... Looks like she is the one I'm supposed to meet today.
I approached her because I'm in a haste to get over with everything as soon as possible. This feeling of guilt is eating me alive.
Acknowledging my presence, she looked up at me for a moment, stood up and said
"Hi! I think you're the one I was supposed to meet here?"
"Uh, yes. Hi, my name is Yash."
With a tight lipped smile she shook hands with me and gestured me to sit down.
"I am Navya. Nice to meet you, Yash. "
She took a pause before saying my name. Oh God no! Her eyes are enough to tell me that she looks hopeful about it. I hate myself right now.
"Navya, Look, I know this is probably not what you expected. But I can't marry you. There is someone else that I love."
I was nervous as hell but I didn't realize that I had said it. The words I have been dying to say,had left my mouth already. I didn't even wait for her to say something about herself. She looked taken aback, her smile dropped off from her face but She took her time to neutralize her expressions.
Through my peripheral vision I saw Amy, who accidentally spilled coffee on someone. Amy was apparently noticing me sitting with Navya and perhaps this diverted her focus.
"Who?"
Navya asked in a surprised tone. A smile was back on her face but this time it lacked something... It looked like she had a guard up now.
Who? All of our memories flashed before my eyes... From our first meeting to everyday when we sat together, chatting, laughing, venting out about our rough days. They're more then enough to make me happy and bring a smile on my face.
"Her name is Aashi. We've been friends for a long time, and I just couldn't lie to anyone. I'm sorry."
Having no courage to look at her, I kept my gaze affixed on the table, wringing my fingers, taking deep breaths. I probably expected her to throw the cup of coffee on my face, yelling, but I heard a chuckle. Which made me look up at her and she was really smiling.
"Don't be. I understand this is a difficult situation for you. At least you chose to stay loyal to her,Yash."
I'm felt so glad after hearing her response. I was happy I could be honest with her. Before I could thank her an old man approached our table. I am not familiar with him.
"What are you doing here? And, who are you?"
He squinted his eyes at me and said in a wobbly voice. I was deeply perplexed. When there was no answer from Navya's end, I stood up and answered him.
"We were just talking. I'm here to see the girl my parents have found for me."
The old man shook his head and said
"There's been a mistake. This girl is supposed to meet someone else, not you."
What? Not me? I turned my head back to look at Navya and she was equally embarrased as me. So, we both were someone else's arranged dates and had no clue that the person we're talking to is not the right one? What is even going on?
"I'm sorry, Sir. I will leave right now."
Before the situation could get worse I decided to apologize and leave. Navya gave me an apologetic look before I turned away from the table but I gave her a quick smile to let her know that it's not her fault. I don't hold her accountable for any of this.
I should have listened to Mom and Dad when they were discussing about the girl. I didn't even care about asking for her name and now I'm paying for it.
But I feel relaxed... Yes! I can feel a wave of joy because now I am free! I will go back home, tell Mom and Dad the whole incident and then I can finally confess to, Aashi. Nailed it!
But not in reality, it's still all in my head... A sudden sound of someone bursting into laughter caught me off gaurd. There were some people standing at the door and they are laughing at, Me!?!?!
I don't recognize the lady that appears to be in her early 50's but wait!

Who do you think is making fun of our pretty boy Yash? 👀 it's not nice by the way...to make fun of someone by laughing at them.
Why didn't the actual girl come to the café to meet Yash? Who is she?
Why is Aashi not answering his calls?
We will find out in the next update, till then please share your thoughts on this chapter and take care of yourselves.
