"I have no interest in the affairs of a world soon to end." - Obito Uchiha

The night Weiss returned to her dorm room was a cold one, one of hollow winds and pouring rain. The drizzle had started as Weiss had stood overlooking the Emerald Forest, crying from icy blue eyes as she slowly tore apart any shred of sympathy she had left in her still heart. The Hōgyoku had gone silent in her emotional unrest. The sky was dark and the stars vacant, bleeding away as Weiss' soul shriveled up and died under the weight of her own ambition and will.

And when Weiss went to bed that night, trembling arms wrapped around Ruby's still sleeping body, she spoke not a word, just snuggling into her girlfriend's chest, for she knew this would be the last time she could.

Tomorrow wasn't another day.

"Weiss...?"

The heiress' cold blue eyes snapped open from her unrestful sleep, only for haunting pools of silver to swallow up her line of sight. Ruby stared at her for what felt like ages, until a pink blue slowly spread up her cheeks as she stammered nervously.

"I- umm... I remember l-last night and I- it was... it was nice..." Ruby admitted, though the crimsonette didn't know if she was being entirely honest. Weiss had ravaged her body without remorse or relent, strong hands taking command over her small body like she Weiss owned it. It had been a terrifying yet pleasuring feeling, one that the young girl couldn't get out of her mind.

But Ruby noticed that Weiss seemed... different. She was staring at her, but her eyes held none of the little micro emotions that Ruby could normally find in her girlfriend's crystal blue eyes. Right now, those sapphire jewels were just hollow, as if every ounce of emotion and care had faded away into nothing, leaving just glass walls in their place.

"Yes, it was. Thank you for everything, my little flower." Ruby was suddenly caught off guard when Weiss gently pulled the silver eyed girl in for a hug, wrapping her slender arms her waist softly and pulling her close. Unsure as of what to do, Ruby tentatively returned the hug after a few seconds, trying to think of what to say until Weiss pulled away and got up from their bed.

Without saying a word, the white haired girl walked away, leaving Ruby both puzzled and slightly hurt as she sat up in Weiss' bed. Her mind was hazy from last night, but she was coherent to know that something was wrong with her partner.

'Why did that feel like a goodbye?'

The day carried on with the same strange tension for the beginning portion of it, Team RWBY had eventually reunited and headed to Amity Colosseum, with Ruby holding Weiss' hand as they both boarded and exited the Bullhead. The crimsonette was getting more and more worried by the second, she tried to talk with Weiss, but the heiress would only give short responses, all the while holding that same empty look in her eyes.

"Weiss, are you alright?"

"Yes, I feel fine."

The team eventually entered the ring proper, with Yang and Blake walking up to the stands as Ruby walked Weiss into the preparation room. Mercury was in the one on the other side, and it was almost time for his and Weiss' match to begin. The crimsonette was concerned now, her girlfriend was acting strange. She sensed an energy around her that made the young team leader uneasy, like whispers of a calamity on the precipice of transpiring.

"Snowflake, are you sure you're okay?" Weiss paused as she was changing into her combat uniform, head slowly turning to face Ruby with her hollow eyes. The silver eyed girl flinched at their emptiness, like bottomless chasms that threatened to swallow her whole. The heiress just stared for a moment, before letting a small smile form on her face. But the smile was empty just like her soul, as if it was done out of sorrow instead of happiness.
