"We make our own monsters, then fear them for what they show us about ourselves." - Mike Carrey

Every movement caused indescribable pain.

The young woman felt another wave of nausea wash over her as brought a trembling hand forward, clawing through dirt and mud as she pulled her body across the ground. Her hair was matted with rain, dirt, and blood. Her face was bruised and caked in dirt, her clothes mauled and body broken and bloodied.

'Just.... Keep moving... Just... keep crawling.... Don't- don't let her catch you... keep... her safe.' Those were the thoughts running through the girl's mind, a girl with raven hair and cat ears atop her head. Her eyes were of shining amber, holding the trauma of what she had witnessed in their center.

In the girl's right hand was a weapon, the black steel contrasting her pale flesh which was marred by red. It was a sort of kusarigama, with a long black ribbon attached at the end. On the end of that ribbon was the blade, and the last few feet of the ribbon was tied around another person. It was another young woman, this one with golden blonde hair, closed violet eyes, and most noticeable of all- a missing right arm.

These two women were Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long, who had both just barely managed to escape complete and utter annihilation.

Blake could remember the beginning of the apocalypse. She had finally begun to trust Weiss, thinking that maybe, just maybe, she and the girl could be friends, and that they could help stop faunus oppression once and for all. But no, she had been nothing more than a fool. Weiss had deceived her and thrown her away like trash, she was no human, she was a monster.

She could still envision that- that thing she had turned into. An abomination of pure and absolute evil, masquerading as both God and Devil- a false deity with immeasurable malice and darkness. The blackened horns and halo, sharp claws and almost alien-like exterior... Weiss had truly ascended.

'She hadn't been lying... she really had been planning this. It all makes sense now. Her grandfather must have built that orb in her chest, it must be the source of her power... All that talk of becoming God... I never believed that it was actually true.' Blake coughed harshly, the beginnings of pneumonia from her time in the rain and cold of the Valeian Forest she currently crawled through.

For perhaps the thousandth time, ever death, every person she had failed to save flashed through her mind. She had watched them all die, every last one of them. Nora being disemboweled and then crushed, Ren being shot through the chest, Jaune being vaporized, Ruby-

Blake had to fight back the tears at the thought of her poor team leader. She had been misled most of all, tricked into love and then having her heart literally ripped from her chest. Watching the light fade from those silver eyes as she had arrived on the battlefield, it was something that would forever scar the young ravenette.

But she had made a choice.

Weiss thought she had died from the impact, but no, she had barely clung on to life and consciousness. As soon as Weiss had ascended into the skies, Blake had gone into action. Her back had been broken, so she could barely move, but she managed to at least save one person.

She would have tried for more, but only one was close enough.

Weiss had been so high off of her transformation that she had failed to notice her jump into action, using Gambol Shroud to grab Yang and then sling the weapon over her shoulder and across the horizon, pulling them both out of the blast zone of Weiss' attack. It had broken Blake's heart to leave Ruby behind, but she knew that the girl was dead anyway.

So now, she just lay there crawling. She didn't know where to go, what to do, how to move on. She had seen the moon be reconstructed and then blasted away, Weiss had truly become a God. She just had to pray that she and Yang weren't discovered, and that they could find somewhere to heal their injuries before they died out in the middle of nowhere. Yang still hadn't woken up, and the cat faunus didn't know when she would either.
