A Flowery Interlude

- Excuse me... - said Zachary to the ice golem tending to some bushes in the garden. - Excuse me, can I... - he stopped for a moment. "Is this ridiculous?" - Can I pick some flowers here?
- Hmmmm. - replied the golem, in a really talkative manner.
- Where exactly?
- Hmm. - said the golem, and pointed towards the greenhouse. Zachary proceeded towards the location.
He knew he had to do something. Something nice, to make her forget that incident in the dining room. He felt really ashamed, and still, couldn't get an apology together. He never did anything like this in a really long time. Like an apology. Like talking about what you feel. Like...
Like...
Caring.

Except for Jeremy, of course. But this was different. However, he still needed an expert's advise. He did a spell, and then asked his faithful companion:
- Jeremy, what colour should we pick? - the raven was thinking for a bit, the said:
- Yellow.
- Yellow it is, then. Thanks, buddy. - replied the ranger, and scratched the bird's neck. Jeremy reacted with a happy sound.
Zachary went on to search for some yellow flowers. To be honest, he still doubted the whole thing. It felt a bit ashaming, but on the other hand, he knew he had to do this.
Perhaps, it is what it feels to do an apology?
He sumbled upon two kinds of flowers that met the description of "yellow". Tulips, and daffodils.
"Tulips feel too generic." Said some voice in Zachary's head. And as so, he listened to it, and picked a bouquet of daffodils.
Luckily, he managed to get to his room without anyone noticing. He put the flowers in a vase, and waited for the right moment.

...

It was around midnight, when Scarlett was getting ready to sleep. Her hair was not tied up anymore; it was bathing in the moonlight, freely, like a butterfly, almost as if the night itself was studying the sea-elf. Looking out after her, making sure that she sleeps well tonight.

Then, a knock could be heard on her door.

For a moment, she thought: "I should tie my hair up." But alas, she didn't. For what reason? She didn't know it. It just felt right.
The sight that welcomed her after opening the door, looked both ridiculous and sweet at the same time.

Zachary was stading there. With a bouquet of daffodils. And some piece of folded paper. And, strangely, without Jeremy.
-Whatever will happen here, will have an impact. Both know.-
The ranger seemed stressed. The flowers were currently covering half of his face, but even then, Scarlett could see that he was red, like some fine wine. Like those that only a few people like the taste of, but those who do, say that it is their favourite.
- Hi, Zachary, errmm... what's... this? - said Scarlett, and made a gesture towards this intriguing sight.
- Well... you know, the thing that happened yesterday at the dinner table, I... - he stopped for a second, then continued - ...It was not appropriate from me. I'm... sorry if I made you embarassed, or something, I just... I'm sorry. And... - he stopped again, and reached out with his arm towards Scarlett, to give her this little "present", then looked down;
- ...and thanks. I needed that. - he got even more red. Silence fell on the two for but a moment that felt like eternity. The sea-elf broke it; with smile:
- Gosh, these are beautiful, hold on I... and what's this? - Scarlett took the piece of paper from Zachary's hand, and unfolded it. It was a drawn portrait of Jeremy. But it was so well drawn, she felt like she was holding the real bird in her hands for a second. Scarlett got surprised for a bit; but just for the fact she didn't know Zachary could draw this beautifully.
"Maybe this is why Gaylord thought that Jeremy died yesterday while being drugged?"
- Wow, this is really amazing! - Zachary made an awkward smile, and scratched the back of his head. But of course, he was proud of this piece of art.
Scarlett put the bouquet into a vase, the drawing in her drawer, and walked back to the door:
- Don't feel bad, there is no reason for it. I'm happy I could help you. It must've felt horrible, breaking down publicly...
"What is he hiding?"
...are you okay now?
- Yes, thanks. - replied Zachary with a bit of an awkward tone. He was still red, but visibly more calm, even if just a tiny bit.
- That's good. - said Scarlett, and the came a half-a-minute long, really awkward, silent waiting session between the two, because none of them felt like saying goodbye first, so they were just standing in the doorway like two dumsies, while looking at the other one.
(Holy shit, even writing this staring contest down feels awkward as fuck lol, but I love it.)
Then Zachary finally said something:
- I, errmm... I think I will go now.
- Yeaa, me too, it's... it's really late.
- Yeah... goodnight.
- Goodnight! - then the door close. The conversation ended. But something began...

...

...Zachary now began to feel suicidal, and wanted to jump out of the window, because he felt like this was the most awkward thing he ever did.
("IT F*CKING WAS" - Zachary)
