- Oh, fiddlesticks... - said Scarlett, or to be more precise, the words just escaped her mind. Zachary just finished his pancakes.
- What is it?
- I... I totally forgot that I wanted something from the hospital, and I still haven't got a dress for the ball... - Zachary, again, had a sudden moment of deus ex machina (jómagam):
- I could fetch it for you while you choose a dress.
- What?
- E̶h̶h̶h̶,̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶,̶ ̶s̶o̶r̶r̶y̶ The thing from the hospital. If you tell me what I have to look for. - Scarlett's pupils widened up, both in excitement and happiness. Zachary was unusually smooth. It's like the voice in his head had 4 months to prepare for this...
- Wait, really? I mean, yes that would be awesome, thank you! - she then hugged him. - It's a dois'sierr'reehhh, probably in the archives. It contains basic information about the people who have worked there, it would mean a lot to me.
- No worries. See you at the ball then?
- Definitely. - she smiled at Zachary, and he smiled back at Scarlett. They stared at each other like this for a moment, then Scarlett went on to find the most beautiful dress in the ruhatár.
Zachary and Lil Jeremy arrived back at the hospital. Sylvaris was nowhere to be found; luckily. The ranger looked around, and saw someone who looked like he knows where the archives are.
- Excuse me, sir, may I ask where are the archives?
- Ermm, yes, but you need to show me some form of authorization. Only workers can enter, you know.
- Sevrik sent me. - the worker's eyes squinted in disbelief.
- Proof?
- Here. - Zachary lifted up the bow Sevrik has gifted him. Conveniently, it had the royal coat of arms.
- Oh, sorry, sir, t-this way, please. - he then proceeded to guide Zachary to the lowers floors. This segment of the hospital semmed like it was touched by the ages more than the war. The walls and corridors all seemed rather old, and a bit run down. No big marks of fight though.
- May I ask what is it you are searching for?
- It is a file about someone who have worked here in the past.
- Ahh, I see. - the worker stopped before a door, and opened it up before Zachary. - Those should be at the fifth cubicle, lowest shelf.
- Thank you.
- Your welcome, sir. - Zachary wasted no time to begin searching. He did dig through multiple files and cases, but eventually, a familiar name has catched his eyes; "Scarlett Nero". He almost put it away into his coat, but Jeremy made a swift leg motion towards the file. Zachary looked at his companion; Jeremy seemed curious. And this made our rangerboy curious as well. He slowly opened the file.
Name, parents, description of work... date of birth. He stopped.
And did not believe his eyes. The date matched up with today's date, with only a mere 287 years of difference. "I thought she was younger."
He packed up the file, this time fr fr no cap, and made his exit out of the hospital. He immediately started to think about some grand birthday-celebration, with a huge cake, candles, pancakes, a big crowd, a 100 person-gypsy-band, and an unforgettably large present.
But he had only 350 gold coins, and no contacts to get a band. Or cakes. Or candles. And they had pancakes earlier.
As he was thinking about this, he saw a sign: "Exotic Gems & Trinkets". He was by far, not an expert at giving gifts, but this sign was promising. He entered the place, and immediately got hit with a dusty, but cozy smell. The shop was rather small, but packed to the fullest extent with all kinds of stones, gems, and various little things.
- Oooohhoohooo, hello there, how can I help a fine gentleman on this very-very good day? - asked a rusty, high-pitched voice from behind a counter. It was a goblin in a trenchcoat. His smile was welcoming, but a bit uncanny.
- Oh, hi there, I... well...
- Ooohhh, do not worry for a moment, I, Ski'Bidi Paloemophulemossonson the Third, will gladly help you in your noble deeds. So, what can I get ya'?
- It's for a girl...
- OOHaohaohoaAOhoaoHAoahA *COUGH* The power of LOOOooOoOOOOve! I'm all in, noble sire, here, let me take a look... - the goblin jumped across the counter, put on a monockle, and proceeded towards a shelf next to Zachary. - What do we have here, a never-dying flower, a smooth, pink gemstone with the smell of spring, what does she like?
- Well, she is a...
- Oooo, look, the Mirror of Arrhazon, it shows you what you desire the most, look! - He handed it to Zachary. The mirror was slightly broken, and when Zachary looked in it, he only saw his, and Jeremy's reflection. The mirror then slightly twitched, and made a rather interesting cracking sound, like tryin to start up; but failed.
- Eeehhh, it's broken, but we can do some magic with it so it will only show you half-naked on the beach to anyone who looks at it, how does that sound?
- Errmm, I don't think she...
- So she is the more subtle type, ehhhh? Not to worry, sir, here, I have... oh it's a dead frog, hehe, how did that get there *throws it away* OOooo, but this, thiiiis is it! I present to you, the rock that is shaped like the person's genitalia after said person pees on it! - The stone was definitely shaped like a male genital. - Is she a freaky woman, my good sire?
- Okay, enough.
- Oh, okay, sorry.
- I want that. - Zachary pointed at an unusually blue stone. It was mesmerizing.
- Ah, yes, good choice, sire, it is a rare gemstone, shaped like a seashell, and here's the catch, you ACTUALLY can hear the sound of the sea! Does she like the sea?
- I think so, yes. - Zachary took the gemstone, and held it to his ear. He indeed, heard the sea. Cool.
- Sooo, do we have a winner? - asked Ski'Bidi.
- Yes, we do.
- Well, regarding the uniquenes off that artifact, it will cost exactly... - he couldn't finish the sentence, because suddenly, he jumped away from the shelf, into an open barrel. Zachary didn't understand at first, but then he heard a patrol of soldiers marching in front of the door. After the noise had cleared up, Ski'Bidi peeked out of the barrel:
- Did they leave?
- Well, yes, but why...
- NOTHING IS STOLEN, I SWEAR ON MY NAME, no, I SWEAR ON MY MOTHER' LIFE!!!
- OOookkkaaayyy, my friend, look, I will...
- Tell no one that you saw me and you can have that for free!
- Errm... okay, bu...
- Pleasure doing business with you now please go with joy and have a great life thank you for your patronage goodbye! - hadarta el Ski'Bidi. Zachary said his goodbye, then exited the store.
While Zachary hid the gemstone under his pillow, Scarlett was still choosing a dress. Lucky. Tia came into the room, and had a final session with the ranger. Zachary was finally getting the grip of it.
But to be sure, he drank a shot.
...
Zachary got dressed, and waited for Scarlett in front of the entrance to the ball room. Soon, Scarlett emerged from the shadows, gently and smoothly, like a swan in the moonlight. She wore a beautiful, long dress, perfectly matching with Zachary's dark blue ÖLTÖNY. He was shocked to see such a gorgeous sight in front of his very eyes, to the point of nearly opening his mouth. Luckily, Scarlett got next to him before that happened. Zachary got himself together, made a bow, then held out his arm. Scarlett held onto it, and they made an entrance. The ball room was well decorated and tidy, despite the fights. It was illuminated by several, large, golden chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. In front of them, at the end of the room, stood the throne; and Sevrik. They walked up to the boy, while enjoying gazes upon gazes, people watching and admiring the duo. They soon were standing before the soon-to-be king.
- Zachary, Scarlett, welcome! You two look really good! - they both blushed. This totally happened, I'm not making up random things to make it more like a shitty romcom.
- The coronation will be the last act of the ceremony, in the meantime, enjoy yourselves. You deserve it, and I thank you both for everything you've done for me.
- Ours is the pleasure. - said Zachary, and bowed. Scarlett did the same, but she was looking in another direction.
Sylvaris was here, too.
- Why is he here, Sevrik? - asked le'bludhoonter.
- We've already talked about this, Scarlett. He can not harm you, nor anyone else here.
- He already did. - whispered Scarlett rather loudly, then took a few steps away. Zachary followed her, because he doesn't have original thoughts. And because "woman sad -> me go make woman happy -> both happy -> life good".
- Hey... - he placed his hand on her shoulder.
- Look at him. He ruined many lives. And now he is still here, having a great time. - said Scarlett, with a pecky, sour undertone.
- He is. And I agree, it is not right, but... - he held out his arm towards the girl - ...that shouldn't stop us from having a good time, either. - Scarlett made a half smile, and accepted the invitation. The band in the ball room started to play some keringő. Zachary made a gulp, then gave himself alltogether to the feeling of the moment. Scarlett was surprised; she didn't take Zachary for a guy who could dance. But oh boy, he did really well here. She led Scarlett, like the most brave generals lead their armies to victory, moved swiftly and gracefully, like a wise lion. And he smiled. Scarlett almost never saw him smile before this, and this made her smile too. Time and playe suddenly started to melt away in both of their vision, only the person standing before them remained, as their beings continued to mend together in this profane act of a ball dance. They danced, and danced; as the universe around them faded into nothingness.
Only they remained. Dancing, and smiling.
