Wavepaw sits outside the medicine den, scanning the camp intently for someone to focus on.

Given the embarrassing events of the last Gathering, the blue-gray apprentice wasn't too keen on bothering her father only to practice detecting his lies, so she had to find someone else.

Falconpaw was starting to avoid her, so further alienating him by peppering him with questions didn't look like a good plan.

Fallowtail would easily find a way to make anything Wavepaw said into a reason to hate Shellstar, so she was off the list too.

Snowflash was a good bet, as long as she wasn't with Shellstar, and Wavepaw had made a bit of progress on determining the tell the deputy exhibited when lying.

There tended to be a bit of a twitch in her left eye when she said certain things, and Wavepaw supposed that'd be a good place to start.

Plus, though Snowflash would undoubtedly tell Shellstar everything discussed with Wavepaw, the white she-cat held valuable information; perhaps a tidbit on the mysterious uncle Wavepaw was no closer to identifying or tracking down.

Rising to her paws, Wavepaw steps past a pile of sandy slush and starts on her way toward the other side of camp.

There she finds Snowflash poised on a pale gray rock, smoothing down her feathery fur with a gray-tipped paw.

"Hi, Snowflash," Wavepaw mews, straining just a little to sound enthusiastic.

She had in the few heartbeats preceding this encounter remembered that Snowflash had attempted to get on her good side by offering motherly companionship, so perhaps that was something she could leverage.

Snowflash glances up, not looking too excited but not quite displeased either.

Wavepaw feels a jolt of tension prickle off the RiverClan deputy for reasons currently unknown to her.

"Hello, Wavepaw. Can I help you with something?" the snow-white she-cat replies, twitching an ear.

"Um...yeah! I wanted to ask you a couple of questions."

Snowflash tenses again.

"What kind of questions?"

"Just kind of important questions, and I'm a bit embarrassed to ask Ivyhawk," the blue-gray apprentice murmurs, hoping to sound bashful.

The RiverClan deputy smirks a little, though tries to smother it with a vaguely maternal smile.

"Ask away."

Wavepaw silently celebrates securing her way in and shuffles closer, sitting down opposite the white she-cat.

"So, um...are you in love with Papa?" the medicine apprentice mews, tipping her head in the same clueless manner she often employed with Shellstar.

To her surprise, Snowflash falters a little but quickly corrects herself.

"Your father is a very charming cat, Wavepaw," Snowflash replies, seeming to skirt over the actual question.

"But why do you love him?" Wavepaw presses, eyes trained innocently on the white she-cat's every move.

Snowflash tenses.

"Well, love works in mysterious ways," she mews, glancing away for a moment.

Wavepaw catches a slight twitch in the deputy's eye and her mind begins to race.

"Hmm...okay."

"I have another question, too."

"What is it?" Snowflash replies, looking a bit irritated now.
