After Dream was freed from stone, Nightmare found him and took him with him, he introduced Dream to Killer, Dust, Horror, and Cross, maybe Error.
And ever since Dream began to live with them, Dust, Horror, and Killer have taught him the ways of gremlinry.
Like imagine:
"Dream! Bedtime!" Nightmare said.
Dream didn't wanna go to bed. He wanted to play. SO he crawled on the ceiling and began to giggle like a little demon girl as he crawled out of the room, still on the ceiling.
To this day no one, not even Dust, Killer, and Horror, know how he crawled/crawls on the ceiling.
