When Branch left his brothers after telling them he had to stop being a baby when they left, he meant it.

The next morning after they had left he had woken up and tried to cook her breakfast, then he tried to clean the pod by himself, then he tried to get the groceries by himself.

She wouldn't let him of course, but eventually, he learned at one and a half how to cook, clean, and buy groceries.

So he really meant it when he told them that he stopped being a baby when they left.
