Chapter 2 The Aquarium

" buzz" "buzz" the sound of my phone going off wakes me up. Throwing off the covers and throw a mini tantrum before rolling over to see who was texting me.  Nisiah:" hey you up?" I roll my eyes before replying." I wasn't but I am now, what's up?" Nisiah:" sorry to interrupt your beauty sleep but it's payday,we are both off and other than work we haven't hung out in like two weeks, and I'm not ashamed to say that I miss you!" I smile texting back. " I was going to bitch you out for ruining my really hot dream, but ill give you a pass. I've got some stuff to handle first but what do you say to one - thirty?". Nisiah:" sounds like a date,let me know when you get back il come pick you up". I sit my phone back on my bedside table getting up to make breakfast. Walking into the kitchen I look over the couch to see if Lucian was still asleep but he was gone. I shrug guess he got an early start.  I fix myself egg and toast before getting dressed and starting my errands.
  One-thirty rolls around quick." Buzz" Nisiah:" I'm outside, you ready?" I grab my bag and house keys before leaving an getting into the black pick up parked in front o my apartment. " longtime no see Vivi." I chuckle '" yeah yeah I'm here now so what's the plan ?". He shakes his head " No plan just enjoying your company and maybe hit up the aquarium, if your up for it?". My face lights up, the aquarium is my favorite place to go ad unwind and have some peace." YES!" Nisiah jumps not expecting me to scream then we both start laughing.  figured you would like that." I buckle my seatbelt." Yes, I do, it's perfect  timing too. I have been so stressed out I could use some peaceful fish action." Forty-five minutes later we pull into the aquarium entrance And find a parking spot. I quickly unfasten my seatbelt when I hear the doors lock.  I look at Nisiah frowning " what the hell dude ?"  He chuckles while opening the glove box and pulling out the biggest joint I have ever seen. I looked around frantically trying to see if anyone was watching ." Vivi, don't tell me we're scared ?"  I giggle nervously, shaking my head ." Oh no ,it's not like it's illegal or anything ."  " Don't worry Vivi, no one can see through my windows and I have body spray to help cover the scent, plus I wish someone would approach me about what I'm doing in my vehicle.".  I  stare at Him a little longer contemplating my decision.    " Fine,but your buying munchies and explaining to Lucian why I came home spaced out, last thing I need …." I stop myself realizing I was about to say too much,diverting my gaze from a now frowning Nisiah. " The last thing you need from him is what Vivi?" " Nothing Ni, just light it already." The look on his face told me that he already knew what I was going to say but, thankfully he dropped the subject and passed me the joint.
  The aquarium was slow with kids attending school, which was great because I was spaced out to the max. We spent nearly till closing watching colorful exotic fish swimming in their own little world. Generally I didn't participate in smoking but today I was honestly glad that I did. My mind had been so busy overthinking these last couple weeks that I never realized how stressed out I actually was. We headed towards the exits when I remembered they way he looked at me when my secret about Lucian's actions almost slipped out,something else also came to mind .Anytime i was ever in trouble or being bullied Nisiah always showed up to save me.I look at him, "Hey can I ask you something"? He nodds "so back in school when I was in trouble or being bullied and you were nowhere around how is it you always knew where to appear and to rescue me "? I shut the truck door looking at him . He doesn't answer but looks like I just caught him doing some unspeakable act he finally shrugs."I don't know if it's just a feeling I get ". I wasn't satisfied with his answer but I could tell that was the only response he was going to give me . Buckling myself in I stare out the window sitting in silence before he finally speaks. "So munchie time, what do you wanna eat"? Before I can respond my phone goes off . Lucian:"where are you? And where is my money?" I sigh, my mood quickly being dampened. Me:"I'm with Nisiah, we haven't hung out in two weeks and I wanted to spend some time with my friend,the money is in the side table beside the bed." Lucian:"don't y'all spend time together at work? You didn't even clean before you left". Me:"yes, but that's work not actually hanging out and I'm sorry I will clean when I get home ". Lucian:"and what time will that be it will you be staying over at his place "? Reading that last text I knew he was pissed. Me:" Nisiah is my best friend nothing more and il be home in an hour or so". Lucian:"Whatever,I won't be home when you get here." I toss my phone into my purse sitting in the floorboard. " Viviana are you hungry? What's wrong "? Texting Lucian had made me forget about food and I hadn't noticed that Nisiah had pulled over and was staring at me like he could see into my soul. Snapping back to the present and putting on a strained smile." Oh sorry, yes I am starving and it doesn't matter as long as it's greasy and smells like pizza". Completely ignoring his second question I notice that his normally beautiful hazel eyes are now pitch black. " Hey are you ok? Your eyes are black". He turns away from me pulling back onto the road."pizza coming right up".   The rest of the afternoon was pretty quiet. Nisiah not wanting to pry and  me just hoping that the tension in the air would just go away. "Are you sure your ok Ni? You haven't said anything since before we got food". Nisiah looks at me his eyes back to their normal hazel. "Yea Vivi good are you ready for me to take you home ? I'm sure Lucian's waiting for you". I sigh heavily, "yeah I guess your right , plus we have work tomorrow and I still need to wash my uniform". He nodds and starts heading towards my apartment.   Pulling into the parking lot and parking I unbuckle my seatbelt, grab my purse and I give Nisiah a hug." Thank you bestie I really needed this,you really are the best". He chuckles" yeah I know". I smirk "cocky much"?    " Ha nope just facts, Vivi are you sure you're ok"? My smile fades a little. " Yes I'm ok, see you tomorrow and be safe going home". I shut the door walking and unlocking my apartment door before stepping inside , when I'm on the floor and the last thing I see before everything goes black is a Lucian whiskey bottle in one hand and clenched fist in the other.
