sᴏᴍᴇᴛɪᴍᴇs, ᴋᴇʟ ᴡᴏʀʀɪᴇᴅ he was a bad boyfriend. He would always get assured that he was just fine, but he wasn't so sure.

He had been dating Aubrey for two months now, but nothing in those two months made him more confident in him being a good boyfriend. He would worry if he was giving her enough attention, giving her too much attention, going on enough dates, being romantic enough, getting her enough gifts, and wow, romance was hard. He didn't know how she was being such a good girlfriend so effortlessly. Maybe it was because of all the romance media she loved. Maybe he should have let her force him to watch her favourite romance shows and read her favourite romance books.

He never told Aubrey about his worries. He wanted her to smile, and she smiled at a lot nowadays, her delinquent phase coming to an end. She shouldn't have to worry about him.

Occasionally, she would joke about him not being a good enough boyfriend. He knew it was a joke and laughed along with her, but he couldn't help but take it to heart. Was he really not taking care of her enough? Was he really not spending enough one-on-one time with her that weren't dates? Was he really that bad of a boyfriend?

That was her latest tease. Kel had him and Aubrey spend almost a week with only each other. She didn't seem to mind the first few days, but nearing the end, she stopped.

"Kel, we spent the last week together," she said. "I love spending time with you too, but I like spending time with other people too, like the Hooligans."

Too much time together. Kel could calculate how much time that was when he got home. "Sorry. You can go hang out with them."

Aubrey nodded and was about to leave before she stopped. "Hey, Kel... Can I ask why you wanted to spend so much time together this week?"

"So I can't want to spend time with my beautiful girlfriend?" Kel hoped it would make her smile and switch the topic.

She didn't budge. "Did something happen? Did..." She lowered her voice. "Are you jealous? Is that why?"

Kel frowned. "I'm not jealous?"

Aubrey kept her gaze on him for a minute before believing him. "Then why did you want to spend so much time together?"

"No reason. I just wanted to."

Instead of brushing it off like he hoped, Aubrey stepped closer. "Kel, I'm your girlfriend. We haven't been dating for long, but we've known each other since we were kids. I trust you, and I know you trust me. You can be honest with me about anything. I won't judge."

He knew that, but it didn't make it any less embarrassing.

But he knew she wasn't going to budge. So reluctantly, Kel asked in a quiet voice that matched hers, "Am I a good boyfriend?"

In a way, he expected her to laugh at what he was worrying about since a week after they started dating and the realization that they were actually dating kicked in. Instead, her hand cupped the side of his face and her voice remained gentle. "Is that what you're worried about?"

He nodded, trying to keep his eyes away from her. It ended up being a little of a challenge with how close they were.

"Kel, look at me." Aubrey waited until he did before she smiled and said, "Kel, you're a great boyfriend. I'm not going to ask why you feel like this or how long, but as your girlfriend, I can tell you that you're doing great."

Kel wanted to believe her so badly, but he couldn't. What if she was just saying it just to make him feel better?

Aubrey cupped his face with both hands, everything gentle about her. "Kel, you're overthinking. You're a great boyfriend, and I'm so happy that you chose me instead of anyone else. I loved these two months we were together, so you don't have to worry about a thing. If I don't like something, I'll tell you. Don't worry about if I'm fine with our relationship because I am, okay?"

Kel realized she was waiting for him to agree. He smiled back at her and said, "Okay."

He let her pull him down for a kiss. Every time they kissed, he wondered why he didn't tell her he liked her sooner. He would've had the feeling of her soft lips on his a long time ago.

When they pulled back, Kel removed Aubrey's hands from his cheeks and said, "You should go hang out with the Hooligans. They probably missed you."

Despite her earlier enthusiasm, Aubrey hesitated. "Are you sure? It feels like a moment where we spend time together now..."

"Nah. We spent enough time together last week. We can spend more time together later! Go hang out with the Hooligans."

Aubrey smiled at him and kissed his cheek. "See you later, Kel!"

"Later, Aubrey!" Kel smiled as she left, raising a hand to touch where she kissed him.

He was so lucky to have her.
