"so" he said, suddenly nervous.
"so what?" she asked sipping on her java chip latte.
"um where do you go to school?" he asked
"st. margret's"
"oh, i go to redwood"
"ah rich brat"
"wouldn't call myself a brat"
"sure" she scoffed
he laughed, already loving bickering with her
"tell me about your family" he said
"i live with dad and stepmom and stepbrother"
"whoa cinderella"
"nope my stepmother is a darling and i couldn't have asked for a better brother"
"that's cool piper"
"what about your folks?"
"live with dad"
"mom?"
"tell me about your mom first"
"she ran off with another guy when i was thirteen"
"well my mom cheated on her husband with my dad...and well dad didn't know she was married"
"damn. looks like we have something in common"
and that was where he saw something in her usually blank eyes, something like understanding.
