Tears Forgotten

Luna Remy Sallow-Uley

It had been a while since they had done this, a very long while she was sad to admit.

Looking up at her father, her pateras, she couldn't help but smile as he frustratedly splashed water at the disabled man besides him, the movement undeniably spooking any life bellow the murky surface - not that the two men seemed to care in that moment.

She laughs softly as she watches them, eyes quickly darting to the rod in her hand as it jutted and stiffened, the line pulled taunt at the possible catch struggling on its hook.

Beaming with the innocent, jovial glee of a child, she excitedly reeled it in, winding the rod until a small struggling form came to the surface, splashing her in the proses as she moved it towards her with the line.

It was too small to be legal, meaning that she would have to throw it back - not that she minded, despite her unwavering ability to slaughter monsters, the act felt heavy when any other form of life else was brought to her decisive hands - but that didn't stop her from proudly raising the small, steelhead fingerling to her father and uncles attention.

"That's five for Luna." Jacob grins from behind her, sitting by the Rabbit to gut and clean the fish that they had already caught.

"Still four behind me, son." Billy chuckles, smirking at a drenched Charlie as he slips and stumbles, trying to climb his way back up the bank after the Quileute chief had nudged his into the water with his fishing rod.

"Five in front of your boy though, old man." Charlie snarks, finally making his way up the bank and throwing his soaked flannelette jumper at the chuckling chief.

"Let's just agree that neither of our children are adequate fishermen."

"Pateras, look, I got another one!" Luna cheers, the child like wonder in her silver eyes, entrancing the three men, her father's eyes softening as he watches her laugh over her current catch.

The two watch Jake run down from the car to cheer her on, the demititan batting him away, gesturing to the water, demanding he wash his hands before pulling in the catch.

It was a decent sized steelhead, almost two and a half times the size of the last one, not overly large but big enough to provide Charlie with a decent dinner - Luna herself wasn't the biggest fan of seafood, contrary to her father's insatiable hunger for the food and her own Mediterranean heritage.

She didn't fancy killing animals for game, food, yes, though never for the solelyfor entertainment. But fishing made her father happy, and so she never hesitated to accompany him when invited.

"That's a good one, little moon." Jacob praises, snapping the thrashing fish off the line before throwing it in the bucket by the car.

"That makes six." Luna sings, smirking at her uncle.

"It's still early, little one." Billy chuckles, meeting the girl's challenging gaze.

"Have you two forgotten that Jake and I are both here too?" Charlie muses. "We have just as much a chance of winning as the two of you."

They didn't.

Though out of the two of them, the shifter was the only one capable of admitting it.

"Sure." Both chief and demititan drawled, synchronised as they offered almost identical looks of trouble towards the police chief.

"It's weird when you both do that." Charlie grunts, trying to suppress the shudder threatening to shake his form at the sight of the two collaborating mischief makers.
