Chapter #2: Exploring New York.
Aug 2nd, 2008
Liz’s POV
I wake up to Sky’s husky morning voice causing me to have butterflies coming through the door. “Hey Liz, I am going to run to the coffee shop around the corner. Would you like anything? They also have pastries.” She says. “I’ll come with you.” I call out. “Ok I’ll be ready when you are there’s no rush.” She says. After I walk out of my room I see Sky in a tight white t-shirt and jeans that hug her perfectly in all the right places. Stop thinking that you just met her last night. I mentally scold myself. “Ok I’m ready.” I tell her. “Great. You will love this place. I go there all the time.” She says as we walk out of the dorm and to the parking lot. “Ladies first.” She says holding the passenger’s door open for me. “Thank you.” I say kissing her cheek as I get in the truck oh shit was that too much? Will she think I’m creepy? Is she blushing? “Ok let’s go, this place is amazing.” She says. “So last night when you told me your sister's names you seemed a little off. Did I make you uncomfortable?” She asks not, taking her eyes off the road. “You really don’t know who The Olsen Twins are do you?” I ask. “All I know is what you told me last night. That you have sisters that are twins named MK and Ashley. Are they famous or something? I practically live under a rock.” She says. “Yes they are a little famous.” I say honestly. “Oh that’s cool. Now let’s focus on you. Today is all about you and you exploring New York.” She smiles when she parks in front of this small coffee shop. “Welcome to Walter’s coffee shop. My favorite shop in the city hands down.” She smiles. “Awesome! I can't wait to try it.” I say.  We are sitting down enjoying our coffee and pastries and I get why it’s her favorite, the coffee and the food is amazing. “Wow Sky this place is awesome. I am definitely coming back.” I tell her, making her smile. “I’m glad you like it. Walter Jr and I grew up together so I always have to sneak the payment to him.” She chuckles. “What if I paid?” I ask. “No no, today is my treat ok so no paying for anything.” She shakes her head. “Well thank you Sky.” I smile, placing my hand on hers. “Ooooo who’s the pretty lady? Come on, Sky spill. I want every detail.” A young man around our age says pulling a chair over to sit with us. “Liz, this is Walter Jr. He makes the pastries and is super gay.” Sky laughs. “It’s true I am. Now Liz, tell me how you two met?” He asks with his head resting on his hands. “We are roommates at NYU.” I tell him. “Oh you aren’t paying then any friend of Sky’s is a friend of mine. Is that an L.A accent I hear?” He says. “Yep, I was born and raised there. Sky is taking me on a tour of the city and to the Statue of Liberty.” I tell him. “Oh you must be special then.” He says nugging Sky, making her blush. “We met yesterday, Walt back off please.” She says. “Ok fine. I’ve got to get back to the kitchen anyway. I just wanted to say hi. Have a great day you two.” He says before getting up and putting the chair back to its original place. “Sorry about him he can be a little much at times but you’ll get used to it.” She laughs. “I think he’s sweet.” I tell her. “Ok so you ready to see New York?” She asks. “Absolutely.” I smile. “We will start with the biggest attraction, Lady Liberty. Then we will have lunch in my favorite part of central park. Does that sound good to you?” She says as we get back in her truck she holds the door for me again and I kiss her cheek again causing her to blush and smile. “Ugh welcome to the traffic in New York.” She groans. “Hey it’s ok we have all day.” I tell her, placing my hand on hers and her body relaxes. “You’re right. How do you do that?” She asks. “Do what?” I ask. “With just the simple putting your hand on mine you are able to calm me, not even Walt can do that.” She  says. “I guess I’m just a calming person.” I say. “Yeah I guess you are.” She smiles.

“Ok Liz hold onto me, it can get pretty crowded and I noticed how you reacted to the crowded dorm hallways yesterday. I don't want you to be uncomfortable.” Sky says holding her arm out for me to link mine with her’s which I do. “Thank you.” I tell her as we are on the ferry to Liberty Island. “For what?” She asks with a confused look on her face. “For making me comfortable and putting yourself between me and the crowds I really appreciate it.” I tell her. “Of course Lizzie. I want you to feel safe around me. I’m a fairly big individual and that can make people uncomfortable.” She tells me. “You gave off this protector vibe the second I met you, trust me you don’t make me uncomfortable quite the opposite you make me feel safe.” I tell her. “Good. I know we only met last night but we are going to be in each other’s lives for quite a while and I want you to always be able to feel like you can tell me things and I will protect you if I have to.” She says and there are those butterflies again. “Oooo we are getting close!” I squeal. “Calm down Liz you have all day if you want to spend time here.” She says. “Really?” I ask excitedly. “Yes really these next few days are all about you and exploring the city with your own tour guide.” She smiles. “So you won’t be upset if I asked if we could go to Central Park tomorrow and spend the day here?” I ask. “Not at all. I love coming here. I mean don’t get me started on architecture. I come here so often the staff knows me.” She chuckles. “Seriously?” I ask with a small chuckle. “Yep, just watch this.” She says as we walk into the entrance. “Oh hey Sky come on in, you know you don’t need to buy tickets anymore. Your friend  doesn’t either as long as you are with her.” The security guard says, letting us go in. “Oh my god. How often do you come here?” I ask. “Multiple times a week. I also am an amiture historian so I love the little museum they have.” She tells me. We walk through the small museum with Sky telling me about every little thing with such passion it’s cute how much she loves it. “Ok you ready to go to the crown?” She asks like a giddy child. “I am. Oh, the elevator is out.” I say. “Oh that’s ok just climb on my back you are not wearing the right footwear for climbing that many stairs.” She says kneeling down. “Are you sure?” I ask. “One hundred percent. I go hiking and mountain climbing all the time and I am part of the soccer team. I'm a very strong individual.” She says. “Ok if you need a break just tell me ok.” I tell her. “I will. Now hop on.” She says she loops her arms under my legs while my arms go over her shoulders and I can feel the muscles in her back flex. “Wow you are very toned.” I blurt out. “Thank you.” She smiles at me. We get to the crown of the statue and she sets me down and I’m a little sad at the loss of contact. “Wow.” I breathe out as we look out to New York. “It looks so small.” I say. “Yeah it’s really a beautiful view.” She says and I can see out of the corner of my eye that she isn’t looking out at New York but at me. “Oh I’ve got to get you one of these to commemorate your first visit to the Statue of Liberty.” She says pointing to the vendor selling little crowns that are Statue of Liberty themed. “You are a very corny person.” I laugh as she puts the crown on my head. “I am, I also got you this.” She says pulling a mini Statue of Liberty out of the bag. “You didn’t have to. I love it, thank you.” I tell her. “I’m glad you like it. And we can come here whenever you want. I am always down to go.” She says. We spent a few more hours there and I was able to convince Sky to let me buy her an ‘I ❤ ️ NYC' shirt which she proudly wore the rest of the day. We decided that we would go to Central Park tomorrow. “So what did you think?” She asks as we drive back to campus. “I absolutely loved it. We get back to our dorm and Sky immediately goes to make a pot of coffee. She is a caffeine addict for sure. “Wait what does your mug say?” I chuckle. “It says ‘Of course I talk to myself sometimes I need expert advice’.” She says. “That is hilarious.” I laugh. “Why do you have a Kansas City Chiefs mug?” I ask. “Oh my parents were born and raised in KCMO so I grew up rooting for the Kansas City sports teams.” She says. “Thank you for today Sky, it was amazing.” I tell her when she comes out of her room after taking a shower that’s when I notice the tattoos on her biceps and shoulders since she’s in a tank top. I know what that symbol represents. I just get up and hug her. “I told you, you are strong.” I tell her. “Thank you for making me feel safe enough that I don’t have to cover up the  tattoos and scars.” She says hugging me back. “I will always be here for you.” I tell her cupping her face in my hands, our eyes locked. “Are you feeling what I am?” She asks. “If you mean the immense need to always be around you and kiss you then yes.” I say blushing. “Can we take it slow?” She asks. “Yes of course.” I tell her. “I am ok with kissing though she smirks. “Well in that case.” I say before pulling her down and crashing our lips together. “Can I turn our trip to Central Park tomorrow into a date?” She asks. “A picnic date sounds amazing.” I tell her. “Perfect because I know the best spot in the whole park.” She smiles before connecting our lips again. “What should I wear?” I ask. “Just something casual, not too fancy.” She says. “Can’t wait but right now I am exhausted. I am going to bed. I will see you in the morning.” I tell her. “Good night Elizabeth.” She says and there is something about the way she says my name that makes me feel weak in the knees. “Good night Skylar.” I say before closing my bedroom door and I hear her door close soon after.
