Chapter #8: We Have News.
Nov 25th 2008
Sky’s POV
“Everyone we have news.” Lizzie says and all eyes are on us but I’m paying all my attention to her. “You are getting married?” Jarnie says. “Not yet I told you we are promised. I’m pregnant.” Lizzie says and my smile grows and I place my hand under the hoodie on the small bump. “But you both are women. I’m confused.” Jake says. “I’m intersex.” I say. “That’s cool!! Do you have a you know vagina too?” Jake asks, making me laugh. “No I don’t.” She tells him. “I’M HAVING A GRANDBABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Jarnie screams getting up and doing some goofy dance. “I don’t want to be called Grandma. I want to go by Memaw, little one.” Jarnie says, talking to Lizzie's stomach. “How much longer do I have to wait to meet them?” Ashley asks excitedly. “Seven months.” Lizzie says. “Where are you going to live you can’t raise them in a dorm?” David asks. “When my parents died I inherited everything including the brownstone I grew up in. Lizzie and I already talked about it and we are going to turn the master bedroom into a nursery.” I tell him. “You are going to marry her right?” He asks sternly. “One day, yes.” I tell him. “Before the baby’s born, correct?” He asks. “Dad please.” Liz says. “If that’s what Lizzie wants.” I tell him. “Dad please stop.” Lizzie asks. “Ok I’m sorry I just want to make sure they are taken care of.” He says. “Mr. Olsen I will take care of them and Lizzie always.” I tell him looking in the eye. “Good. Now I think David is a good name don’t you?” He jokes. “Oo, so is Ashley.” Ashley says joining in. “I was thinking Levi if it was a boy.” Lizzie says. “What if it’s a girl?” MK asks and Ashley, Courtney and MK just lean in. “Barbarian.” I joke. “We are not naming our child Barbarian.” Lizzie laughs. “What about Lucile after your mother?” She says. “Do you mean that?” I ask. “Yes I do.” She says. “Then I guess we have first names picked.” I say. “If it’s a girl, how about Jarnette for the middle name after your mom?” I say. “I like it.” Jarnie says. “It is a beautiful name.” David agrees. “Did Mom and Dad just agree on something?” MK laughs. “Hey it’s my grandchild too I want to go by Pepe by the way.” David says. “Ok Pepe.” I say and he tears up. “Oh my baby’s having a baby.” He says, getting up and giving us both a hug. “Take however long you need to get married. I’m sorry if I made you feel rushed.” He says. “Thank you but you can let go now.” Lizzie chuckles. “Right, sorry I’m just happy.” He says.

Lizzie’s POV
“So this is your room?” Sky says as I show her to my room well our room. “Yep this is it. Why didn’t you tell them you also play piano?” I ask. “Because I thought they might ask me to play the one in the living room. Even though it’s a beautiful piano.” She says. “Who plays?” She asks. “Mom does.” I tell her. (A/N I have no idea if Jarnette Olsen plays piano.) “What do you think of a beach wedding?” Sky asks. “I like that idea.” I tell her. “It was Aunt Nancy’s idea.” She chuckles. “Do you like the idea?” I ask. “As long as it’s you I’m marrying then I don’t care if we got married in a dumpster.” She is completely serious. “Do you want to get married before the baby is born?” I ask hoping she’ll say yes. “I do. What about a December wedding?” She asks. “Really?” I ask. “Yeah really.” She says. “Great I’ll tell Mom, call your Aunt the wedding’s on the 18th.” I tell her. “Ok.” She says as I run out of the room. “Mom! Where are you?” I yell running down the stairs. “In the kitchen. Whoa slow down what’s the rush?” She asks as I run into the kitchen. “18th.” I say out of breath. “What?” She asks. “The wedding on the 18th Sky is calling her Aunt right now.” I tell her and she gives me a big hug. “DAVID!! GET YOUR ASS IN THE KITCHEN!!” Mom yells. “Ugh it’s like being married to you all over again.” Dad jokes. “Oh hush it. You better not have plans on the 18th because our little girl is getting married.” Mom says excitedly. “Oh my god! I get to walk you down the aisle right?” He asks. “Of course Dad.” I say as I give him a hug. “Um Jarnie do you think my Aunt and Uncle and my best friend could stay here?” Sky says walking into the kitchen. “Of course I have plenty of room.” Mom says. “Good they are packing right now and booked a flight they will be here around five.” She says. “Walt wants to help plan the wedding. He said that every wedding needs a gay man to help plan it. His words.” Sky laughs. “That is something he would say.” I nod. “I’m going to get some sparkling grape juice to celebrate.” Ashley says. “Will you get me regular wine?” Mom asks and I panic internally. I don’t know if it bothers Sky and she just got her three years last month. “Yeah sure red as usual?” Ashley says Sky wraps her arms around me and leans her head onto my shoulder. “I’ll be ok.” She whispers in my ear giving me a kiss on the temple. “What are you two whispering about?” MK asks nosy as usual. “Oh Lizzie was worried that your Mom drinking would bother me. But it won’t.” Sky says. “Why would it bother you?” MK asks. “Oh I’m in recovery.” Sky says. “Wait, you're an alcoholic?” Dad says. “A recovering alcoholic, I got my three year coin last month actually.” She says proudly. “Wow that’s awesome, I'm proud of you.” He says. “You used the term ‘recovering’ . What did you mean by that? If you don’t mind me asking?” MK says. “Oh I don’t mind at all, I'm very open about my recovery. So you see when an alcoholic stops drinking it doesn’t mean they are cured. It means that they work on staying sober everyday. Some days are harder than others like the anniversary of my parents death. I didn’t want to get out of bed, one because of depression two I was worried I’d go find a way to drink and this amazing woman right here pulled my ass out of bed and drove me to a meeting. Just being with Lizzie makes me want to stay sober because drinking can hurt the ones you love and I never want to hurt her.” Sky says. “Oh I can call Ashley and tell her not to buy the wine.” Mom says. “I assure you I’m fine. If I hide from people when they have a drink then that is actually bad for me.” Sky says. “Thank you for being so open and honest with us.” Dad says. “I am marrying you daughter in less than a month. I don't want to hide something like that from you.” She says. “Well I’m proud of you for having the courage to get help when you needed it and continuing to get help.” Dad says. “Thank you David.” She says. “Oh please call me Dad like you said you are marrying my daughter.” He says. “I can’t.” She says. “It’s uh too painful.” She adds. “Oh I’m sorry I didn’t mean to bring up painful memories.” Dad says. “You didn't, I'm just not ready to call anyone that. I don’t think I ever will.” She says. “David is just fine then.” He says. “Thank you.” Sky says.
