It wasn't hard to find who was the centre of attention; it was none other than Livi and Maya. Their expressions were painted with disgust as opposed to the excited faces of the students surrounding them.
"Kiss. Kiss. Kiss." The cheering and jeering crowd shouted like the stampeding of the horses.
"This is all because of you. I told you, I should stand on your feet as I'm a lightweight, and you could have easily handled me. But no, you forcibly stood on my heels. Now see what happened. We fell; you ruined everything." Maya shouted in an obnoxiously loud voice.
"It could have been easier if you would have removed your heels." Livi shrugged her shoulders.
"Shut up! My heels are perfect. You are just so bulky that I lost my balance." Maya shook her head with fingers covering her face.
She didn't just say that!
"What did you say, bitch?" Livi lunged forward and twisted Maya's arm. "I'll show you the definition of bulky." She laughed menacingly.
Instead of replying, Maya's gaze moved around in quick succession before pausing at the camera, that was directly recording her. With a hard twist, she freed herself and smashed her lips with Livi.
What the hell?
"Wow, this is going to be the moment of the year. Let me record," Luce chirped. Seemed like he wasn't in shock like me, as he moved forward after turning on his phone camera.
The kiss lasted only for four seconds.
"Ding," Luce grinned when he clicked the stop button of the video, he was recording.
"Ew, that was so gross." Maya dabbed her lips with her finger.
"Yeah, you tasted like rotten eggs," Livi glared at her and walked away.
I hoped she was feeling okay.
Sighing, I folded the newspaper for the fourth time, noticing there was only a place for one person to stand on it. If Jai had not pulled me towards his chest, I would have missed the first few beats of music, and then we would have been disqualified. He saved us. I smiled and laid my head on his shoulders while standing on his foot. Arms encircled my waist, and everything else around us seemed to blur.
"Now only two pairs are left, let's see who will win. Someone announced, breaking our moment. "One partner has to lift the other. The one who lasts till the end is the winner." The rules were informed to us.
I wished luck to Luce, and he repeated my gesture by wiggling his eyebrows. When Jai finished folding the paper, it looked like a tiny rectangle. As soon as the music began, Jai immediately lifted me. Every ounce of my body, thrilled at his touch. Being so close to him, made me feel alive as our hearts beat as one. The way his stormy grey eyes darkened, I wanted to dance this way with him forever.
The music faded away and we continued to stare at each other. Loud applause made me realize, they were shouting for us as the winners.
Thank you, Jai. I love you!
Without warning, not so subtly, Jai dropped me to the ground; my body slid down against his. I glanced up to see a smug expression plastered on his face while my heels made a thud sound, on touching the ground. This ruined the nostalgic feeling.
"Congrats," Jai whispered in a rough voice, which blew a few strands of hair on my forehead. As if he realized that we were standing close, he walked away without waiting for me to thank him.
I hoped he wouldn't get too angry that I didn't allow him to kiss me.
Livi appeared in front of me and tugged at my hand without any words. Her excited expression and my guilt refrained me from asking questions. By the time, we reached the front of the circular crowd, everyone was cheering the word 'kiss' with more enthusiasm. It was for Luce and his partner.
