I paced outside the parking lot, beside a small fountain at the corner. Footsteps followed me and I turned around to see Haider, looking at me questionably. He had expected me to follow him further but I'd wanted to stay alone for some time. I needed time to digest what was going to happen.
Reluctantly, he left me alone when I gestured for him to go ahead. He wasn't shy about hiding his displeasure this time, and my heart fluttered that he cared about me. There was no reason for him to worry about me. This place wasn't secluded. Rather, lots of teenagers roamed around the fountain while finding a perfect spot to click pictures. A few groups sat on the wooden benches, a few feet away, and their loud chatters filled the area.
All in all, this place was crowded, and there was no place to sit. Standing alone while having nothing to do, always made me feel awkward. And it was the reason I placed my phone near my ear and pretended to call someone. This time, I didn't talk with myself out loud, rather I kept giving the impression to others that, the dialled person was not picking up the phone. In reality, I was trying to calm my nerves.
Not only this was the first time I would be going alone with Haider, but this was also the first time, I would be riding alone with a boy. It wasn't anything compared to going in Lue's car, countless times. Maybe it was because Livi was there with me all the time, and we were sort of best friends.
In the past, my ex-boyfriends had never offered to give me a lift on their bikes. Although given that, the fact that they were underage drivers scared me, but it wasn't the case with Jai. I was the one who had complained to him multiple times, to allow me to sit on his beautiful bike, but it always fell on deaf ears.
He never cared about my feelings.
Now that I was thrown into a situation where I had to go with Haider, alone, I was too nervous to feel any other emotion.
A car stopped ahead of me, and Luce peeked out his head from the driver's seat. "Bye, Aless. You don't have to wait long because Haider, isn't far behind," he informed me, and Livi bent her head down, beside him to wave me goodbye.
The thick smoke that emanated from the car as it went away, made me cough and I cursed Luce for it. Paying the bills had cost them some time since the club's internet was having some problems, and that was the reason, Livi had texted me, asking if I had any cash. By the time, we reached the counter, she called me to inform me that, the payment issue was sorted and they were in the parking lot. I hoped that Luce didn't get too late, to wherever he was hurrying to.
Two simultaneous, loud beeps of the horn, rocketed up my pulse rate, and my steps faltered back. Placing my palm over my pounding heart, I searched for the source of the noise. On the opposite side of the road, a guy was staring continuously at me, while sitting on his scooty. No doubt, he was the one who had horned at me, but his black helmet made it impossible for me to recognise him. Moreover, he couldn't be Jai, because he rode a Ducati.
Then who was he?
He didn't give me the creepy vibes. And, judging from the green T-shirt and blue jeans he wore, it looked similar to Haider's outfit. Even though his physique indicated to me that it was him, I wasn't going to come, without confirming who he was. Should I just call out to this stranger in Haider's name or walk towards him, and politely demand if he was someone I knew? Both of the options didn't seem suitable to me, because I wasn't good at speaking with strangers.
It wasn't a surprise that I lacked social skills.
The boy must have sensed my distraught, because he flipped open the glass of his helmet, and familiar black eyes, stared back at me. "Why are you not coming?" Haider asked me.
