The day had finally come, you had just finished getting ready to see Konig, to forgive him for everything that had happened between you. With a mixture of emotions swirling inside, you made your way to the familiar spot beneath the large oak tree. You had been meeting him here everyday, telling him about your day or just to get away from all the stress of paperwork.
As you approached, you noticed Konig sitting there, under the shade of the tree.
Taking a deep breath, you took a seat beside him on the soft, green grass.
"When you first told me why you had taken Shepherd's mission, I didn't quite understand," you began, your voice soft and filled with emotion. "I was angry with you, I felt betrayed, and I was heartbroken that you didn't tell me about the mission. I never really tried to understand it from your point of view."
"I see now that you only wanted to protect me from Shepherd. I should have realized that before saying those things to you. I never hated you, Konig. I'm sorry for saying that to you. I understand why you did what you did, and I forgive you." A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the oak tree.
"You made me so happy, Konig. I never, for a second, regretted the time we spent together... Well, I do regret one thing."
You paused, looking out to the serene view before turning to look at the headstone sitting beside you. You glance at the name carved in the stone.
König.
"I regret not being able to say goodbye to you."
The memory replayed like a haunting film reel. You recalled the frantic urgency in your steps as you sprinted towards the building where Konig was, only to witness it explode before your eyes. The last words he spoke to you echoed in your mind
"I love you."
He had almost made it out.
The impact killed him instantly.
The entire team had struggled to drag you away from the rubble, as you clung to the remnants of that devastating moment, you found yourself in the same position when you were digging through the rubble to find your brother.
You were now digging to find konig.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. You found solace by his grave, as if somehow, in the silence, you could reach him. The team would alternate days, they would physically have to drag you away from his grave and bring you back to base.
Over time, you began to visit his resting place on your own. You would sit there, talking to him for hours on end, sharing your thoughts. You knew, deep down, that if there was an afterlife, Konig was right there beside you, listening to every word you said, feeling every emotion you experienced.
"Price briefed us on a new mission today. Laswell is sending us to Austria," you shared, your voice soft and filled with a mix of emotions. Austria had been the place of your first encounter with Konig, and the memories flooded back with both sweetness and sadness.
"I just wanted to let you know I won't be visiting for a while. I'm not sure when I'll be back," you continued, your fingers gently brushing over the headstone, as if trying to feel his presence once more. "I love you Konig, I'll see you soon."
With one last look at the stone, you slowly rose to your feet. Mounting Konig's motorcycle, you rode away, back to the base, carrying his memory with you, knowing that wherever you went, a part of him would always be by your side.
4 years later...
