chapter 13

Sonia's pov

We took the jet again to be there for the funeral, I didn't know Maya but she must have been special to Dev because I had never seen him this devastated.

He told me about her last night as he cried his heart out on my shoulder, his voice broke at times and I felt my heart break with it.

He told me about Max too, and I appreciated that he was sharing these things with me.

When we landed there were still a few hours until the funeral so we went to his house the moment we entered memories attacked him.

"MAYA  stayed with me For a while, before she got a Job and a place of her own, she was so happy seeing me after years,  but then Life took her away,  I'm just a bad person and maybe deserve what life is doing to me."

I warped my arms around him tightly this time.

"Don't say that Dev, she's gone and I know she's been a dear friend and you're sad but you have nothing to do with it,  it's her destiny."

" you can't blame yourself for something that is out of your hands Dev, we're here and will be there in her farewell, I'm sure she's in a better place right now ."

I said and he looked at me

"I'm just sorry I wasn't there for her in her last days," he said sadly.

"I know".

Later both arrived at the funeral and many people came to Offer Condolence

Friends from work, neighbours,  and even some members of her late husband were there although they had made her life difficult back in the day.

When the funeral was over,  Max Came up to Dev and Sonia.

"Thanks for coming." He said and Sonia nodded with a Sad smile.

"Dev, listen to our last encounter, I knew I said things and maybe tried to turn Maya against you but I regret it now, I'm sorry Dev I'm so sorry I can't change what happened but all I wish for is that we forget what happens, I want my brother back. "

Max said tears gathering in his eyes and Sonia hoped that Dev would make up with him.

After a moment of silence, Dev pulled Max into a Hug.

"For your information, I'm just Doing it for Maya, your tears didn't move me at all," Dev said jokingly.

"Still, you did it, thank you," Max said breaking the hug.

Sonia smiled as Dev warped an arm around her.

"What's the story, Dev have you found your love? " Max asked.

"Well, you could see that, she's my wife-to-be Max so keep your tongue on check. "

Dev said and Sonia's heart danced in happiness, did he just call her his wife?

"Oh congrats, you saved the planet, Sonia, " Max said

"What do you mean? , the planet is so lucky that I'm living on it, right sweetheart? "

"Not exactly Dev, but I love you anyway. " Sonia said and Dev's eyes widened in shock.

Max laughed and Dev pouted

"Thx for the support, sweetheart You made that idiot happy now ."

Sonia kissed his cheek "Aww, come on don't take it to heart."

"What about you Max, are you with someone? " Sonia asked

"No, not as yet my heart is a free bird and it's better that way." He said

"When did you become so wise? , what happened to you?" Dev asked Amused

"Nothing,  I have always been wise You just didn't notice it.

"OK,  what do you do for work? " Dev asked.

"I have my own restaurant now! " Max said proudly.

"Wow, congrats!" Sonia said

" I'm amazed, You have always liked to cook,  I'm happy for you." Dev said

Max smiled "Thanks guys,  promise to come for a meal someday. "

"Promise."

Two days later, Sonia and Dev got back home, Leo took care of everything and Dev was thankful,  he felt lighter after meeting his old friend and getting things right with him.

in the evening he and Sonia were in his room as he was typing something on his laptop.

"Dev, were you being serious about me your future wife?"

He stopped typing and she sat next to him and he took her hand to his lips kissing it.

"Yes sweetheart,  I want you to be with me all the time and I have been thinking of something.."

he paused for a moment before going on

"I want to start a legal business with the money I have and just get a fresh start with you."

Sonia's heart was beating so fast in her chest,  that was all she ever wanted.

"Dev, that would be amazing and I'm sure you would work out anything, you're a great businessman. "

She said and he smiled a real smile that reached his eyes.

" I take it, you agree to be my wife?"

He asked

" Oh yes yes " she said warping arms around his neck.

"I love you." He said

In the soft glow of dimmed bedside lamps, Sonia and Dev's eyes locked with a fiery, passionate intensity. Their hands, trembling with desire, reached out to trace each other's curves and contours.
