When Aoko left the room, all our classmates quickly turned their attention to me, their faces filed with shock. Then, they all suddenly surrounded me and began to ask a lot of questions about what had just happened. They were worried because... even though we were 'fighting' all the time, it was never really serious and would always just be playful jokes between us two.

Even I was just as confused and surprised as they were about what happened but... In an attempt to ease the tension a bit, I let out a nervous laugh and jokingly suggested that she just wasn't in the mood for my jokes today, which is why she reacted like that.

I managed to get away from them and went to my chair. I was still so confused and worried about what happened that it made me stare blankly at the window beside me, trying to comprehend her sudden anger.

'I mean... I know that she doesn't like most of my jokes but... she... hasn't really gotten mad at me like this before... or even acted like this...' I thought.

For the remainder of our lunch break, I remained seated and did nothing but just stare at the window next to me to keep me company. As minutes passed by, the bell rang again and soon enough, the teacher went in and started to take attendance, but Aoko still wasn't here. A few minutes went by, our classroom door slid open, and everyone turned to see who was entering — It was Aoko.

She came back late for the first time, and for once, it wasn't because of me. She approached our teacher and apologized for being late before she slowly made her way to her chair next to me and sat down quietly.

From that point on in class, she gave me the cold shoulder — no words, no glances, nothing at all. Her silent treatment extended until the end of the school day. Aoko maintained her distance, and so did I, giving her the space she needed.
