Carnations you had thought were roses, that's us. I feel you, no matter what. The rubies that I gave up.

Y/n's mentor stood where she said she would. Her smile when she saw me shined brighter than the sun. Y/n's mentor was young. At least young for a mentor. Y/n loved that her mentor was young though, mostly because she could understand her more.

"Y/n!" Her mentor shouted, throwing her arms around y/n.

Y/n returned the hug, "Chiyo."

They stood there for a minute, embracing each other. It was almost like they were old friends reuniting. Y/n had missed Chiyo greatly. Just hugging her it felt like she was getting healed.

Chiyo pulled away first, "you look like hell."

"Well, I went through hell," y/n replied.

Chiyo laced her fingers in between y/n's and led her through the woods and to their cabin. The cabin was small, but held so many things. Chiyo liked to collect the things that she finds. Like, shell and rocks. Y/n didn't judge her for that, if anything she liked looking that the rocks Chiyo found.

Y/n took off her shoes and laid on the cold wood floor. She was so tired, she didn't think he could make it to the bed so she laid on the floor.

"Come on, y/n," Chiyo spoke. "You can't be that tired."

Y/n groaned in response. She knew Chiyo was going to force her to get up so she did it on her own.

"Maybe we need to work-" Y/n cut Chiyo off.

"Please let me rest for one day."

Chiyo laughed as y/n walked off to her room. Chiyo decided to let y/n sleep for the night and ask questions in the morning.

~~~~~~~
In the morning, y/n felt horrible. Her body ached everywhere, it hurt to move. Still, y/n stood and walked into the kitchen. Chiyo was making breakfast for the both of them.
"Good morning," Chiyo greeted. "I surprised you even stood up."
"It doesn't feel too nice," y/n sat at the table, waiting for Chiyo to finish.
"Wow not even going to offer to help," Chiyo said, sarcastically.
Y/n turned her head back to her mentor, "would you-"
"Y/n, I was kidding."
"Oh."
Chiyo laughed, yet again, at y/n. She always loved to play jokes on y/n. Or maybe they weren't jokes, y/n would never know.
Chiyo laid their plates on the table and they both bowed their heads, saying a small prayer. Y/n had so much to be thankful for other than food, but she really didn't care, she just wanted to eat.
"So, tell me about how the final selection went," Chiyo conversated.
Y/n went through the events at the final selection. She went into a little to much depth about Tanjiro though, at least that's what she thought. Y/n talked on and on about how she didn't understand why Tanjiro had such a pure soul and why he was so kind. Y/n's mentor sat and listened to everything y/n said. Chiyo was always such a good listener.
When y/n finished, there was silence between the both of them. A very long silence. It seemed to take over the room with how long it was.
Chiyo took some time processing what y/n rambled on about because she didn't know how y/n, out of all people, made a friend. Chiyo began to smile at the thought.
Y/n, on the other hand, thought that Chiyo was disappointed at her for getting involved with outsiders. Well, Tanjiro wasn't really an outsider, but maybe Chiyo didn't want y/n to make friends.
"Y/n, sweetie," Chiyo began. "I'm so happy for you!"
Chiyo jumped up and hugged y/n tight, "you made a friend!" She shouted.
Y/n smiled into Chiyo's shoulder, "I'm proud of me too."
A few weeks passed and y/n was back training. She thought that even though she passed, she still could improve on certain things. Y/n wished she could train with her sword, but it hadn't come in yet. She hoped in would today, so she could at least have an excuse to see Tanjiro.
Chiyo kept telling y/n to be patient, but y/n didn't want too. She wanted to start slaying demons as soon as she passed the Final Selection. Her mentor told her she was acting like a child when she complained about it. Y/n snapped back with "I am a child" and that made Chiyo back off.
Y/n heard Chiyo shout her name to come inside. Y/n followed the sound of her name and slide the doors open, to reveal Chiyo standing with a man she did not recognize.
The man more a mask and y/n immediately knew it was a swordsmith.
"Oh hello," y/n bowed.
"I'm here to deliver the sword I made personally for you," the man spoke.
Chiyo looked like she wanted to explode from excitement. Y/n wasn't only one waiting impatiently for her sword.
The masked man handed the sword to y/n. She took a second to admire it, but then realized that both of them were staring at her to open it so she did.
As y/n held the sword in front of her, it turned an ice blue color. The hilt of the sword was a darker shade of blue. Y/n thought the sword was gorgeous. It was even light and easy to toss around, that makes it easier for her to use her breathing style.
"Thank you," y/n said. "It's absolutely perfect."
Even thought the swordsmith's face was covered, she could see that he was smiling. Chiyo looked thrilled to see a blue sword.
"Glad to hear that," the swordsmith replied. "I should be heading out."
They said their goodbyes to the man and watched as he walked off.
"Wait," y/n examined the sword. "Won't people think i use water breathing? The sword is blue."
"Probably, I know one of the hashira's sword is blue and he uses water breathing," Chiyo responded.
"So, how does that help me?" Y/n asked.
"I guess it doesn't, but the hilt of your sword is different than his, I think."
Y/n rolled her eyes as the young lady standing in front of her, "thanks, Chiyo."
"Anytime," Chiyo smiled.
