I swear that it was something. 'Cause I don't remember who I was before you. Painted all my nights, a color I've searched for since.

Tanjiro and y/n didn't speak for while. They both were processing what just happened. Well, y/n was concerned that Tanjiro thought less of her because she didn't know how to swim. Tanjiro on the other hand was thinking about the next step to figuring out how to make Nezuko human again. Y/n face grew redder every time she replayed the moment in her head. She was no damsel, but did Tanjiro see her as such?

Knocking both y/n and Tanjiro out of their heads, was Tanjiro's messenger bird. "Rumors of demons lurking in Asakusa, Tokyo!" The bird cheered. Y/n's eyebrow raised in confusion, another mission already? They had just got done with the first one.

"Another mission already?" Tanjiro wondered. Asakusa, Tokyo was a city that y/n had been to multiple times with her mom. It was a beautiful there, lots of sights to see and lots of people. Y/n hadn't been there since her mom died, but she was almost glad to go back. Y/n found herself smiling at the thought of the city, but then it faded because she realized it's a mission and not a vacation.

"Yes! Your next mission! Off to Asakusa!" The bird spoke. Tanjiro protested against the bird which led to a minute of bickering. Y/n watched as the two argued and wondered where her bird could be. She hadn't seen it since the final selection.

The fighting had officially made y/n mad. She put a hand on her friends shoulder. "I know my way around that city, we'll be fine," she reassured. Tanjiro's face softened at y/n touch and her voice. He trusted y/n and hoped she felt the same way. He sighed before letting his crow go.

"Your bird is awfully annoying," y/n commented. Tanjiro groaned in reply which made y/n giggle a bit. She was kind of happy she hadn't come into terms with her crow because her bird was probably just as peppy.

The two friends talked with each other as they continued with their journey. Y/n wondered how Tanjiro felt about what Kazumi said, he had lost so much to demons. She could only feel a bit of sadness, but she made that out to be because he didn't get any information. Y/n felt herself zoning out again, but what knocked in reality by Tanjiro.

"Are you okay, y/n?" Tanjiro questioned his friend. He wanted to know what went on in her mind because she was always disassociating. Everything about y/n seemed interesting and Tanjiro wanted to learn more. This was hard due to the fact that y/n was a very closed off person, but he was still determined to get her to open up.

"Oh, yeah sorry," y/n responded, looking up and her eyes widening. They had reached the city, the lights blinded Tanjiro. Everyone looked so lively and excited. Y/n hadn't realized how much she missed being in the city. Even with her horrible social skills, she still enjoyed it.

Tanjiro panicked, "w-what is this?" y/n turned to him. Did he not know what a city is or did he not like all the people? Y/n couldn't tell, all she knew was that he seemed scared.

"Tanijro," y/n spoke. "Have you ever been to a city?" Tanjiro could see that y/n wanted to laugh because she knew the answer. Still, he shook his head in reply. Y/n's heart shoved her brain out of the way and before she knew it, she had grabbed Tanjiro's hand.

The maroon colored boy was shocked at this sudden action, but he went with it because he had no clue what he was doing. Tanjiro gazed up at the sky, the stars barely visible because of the bright lights. He frowned at the realization. Looking back at his friend, who was eagerly leading him through people, her scent was stronger than ever before. If Tanjiro had to name what she smelt like, it would be the rain. Changing all the time like midnight rain, getting stronger, then weaker, but never to weak to not continue on with her goal.

On his back, he felt Nezuko move. Tanjiro got nervous and worried so he abruptly stopped to open up the box. Y/n turned on her heels and crouched next to the boy. Nezuko peeked her head out to make sure everything was alright before jumping into her brother's arms.

"You should still be asleep!" Tanjiro exclaimed. Ignoring her brother, she turned to y/n and kissed her forehead like she had done during the mission. Y/n smiled brightly at the young girl, a single tear falling down her face. After a second of silence, y/n ruffled Nezuko's hair.

"Alrighty, are we ready to keep going?" Y/n questioned, wiping the tear off her face. "I know a good food place around her somewhere if we are hungry." She didn't really remember where it exactly was, but y/n felt if she wandered around she would eventually find it.

Tanjiro, having full faith, agreed. He took his sister's hand and followed y/n into the large crowd. After more than a few minutes of walking, Tanjiro began to question whether or not y/n knew where she was going.

"Y/n," Tanjiro spoke. "Do you know where we are headed?" Y/n stopped dead in her tracks because she knew she had no clue. Feeling too embarrassed to even turn around, y/n clenched and unclenched her fists. She had to know where she was going, this was the last place she was with her mom. Y/n tapped her pointer finger against her thigh, trying not to cry.

"Y/n?" Tanjiro questioned, laying a hand on his friend's shoulder. "I've realized you're not the best at directions and that's totally okay! So, if you feel embarrassed about that, there's no need to be. I promise." Y/n turned to face him, tears slowly falling down her face. This man was unlike anyone she had ever met. He was kind, courageous, bright, colorful, and y/n didn't know how to handle someone like that.

Taking a big deep breath, "I know the way, but thank you though." Instead of beating herself up about anything and everything she ever said to Tanjiro, she grabbed his hand lightly. "Please trust me," y/n said.

Tanjiro smiled big. "I will always trust you, y/n."
