And I wake with your memory over me. That's a real fucking legacy to leave.

Y/n strolled her way through the woods, trying to find where Tanjiro said to meet up in his letter. She had forgotten that Tanjiro and her could exchange letters for some reason.

She listened to each step she took, the leaves being crushed under her. Y/n didn't want get lost, but she knew in the back of her mind, she would. She hopes Tanjiro would eventually find her and they would talk about how they have been and what their swords look like.

Anxiety crept into her brain, she was lost. Why the hell had she agreed to find this place on her own? Tanjiro said it wouldn't be hard to miss.

Oh. Right in front of her stood a rock that had been cut in half. The place Tanjiro said to meet. Y/n walked around it and saw the maroon haired boy pacing.

He turned around, "y/n!"

Y/n smiled. She missed seeing Tanjiro's bright smile, it made her feel warm inside. "Hi, Tanjiro," she said.

Tanjiro's sword was swung loosely by his side when he reached out his arms to hug y/n. Knowing what Tanjiro was going to do, she stepped back.

"Okay, not a hugger," Tanjiro said. "Got it."

Y/n didn't really know why she never wanted hugs. Her grandma would always say "c'mon give grammy a hug" and y/n would never hug her, so she just kissed her grandma of the forehead in return.

"So should we show our swords?" Tanjiro smiled. He was always so excited for everything. Y/n wished she could have that excitement.

"You go first," y/n stated.

Tanjiro nodded and pulled out his sword. The sword was a black color with the hilt being wrapped with black tape, but there was some red showing through. The sword was cool, one y/n thought a hashira would have.

"Do you like it?" Tanjiro asked. He seemed like he wanted feedback as if he was told something bad about it and needed to hear something nice.

"It looks like a sword a hashira would have, honestly," y/n spoke.

"Really?" Tanjiro's eyes lit up. Y/n could literally feel his excitement.

"Yes," y/n reassured. "I think it makes you look badass. Like, no demon will ever dare to approach you."

Tanjiro's smile grew even brighter. Y/n wasn't so sure she chose the right words to describe how she felt about his sword, but he seemed to like it so it was okay.

"Okay, you're turn," Tanjiro said. Y/n took a deep breathe and drew her sword.

The sword looked the same as it did when she first saw it. The blade of the sword was a light blue and the hilt was a darker blue. One thing she hadn't noticed though was the words engraved on the cross-guard. Y/n pulled the sword a little closer so she could see what it said .

"snowflake"

It was the name of y/n's mom's sword. She began to think that this sword was an exact replica of her mom's. Y/n had never really seen her mom's sword, but she had an idea that it was basically the same sword.

"What is it, y/n?" Tanjiro questioned.

"My sword has a name," y/n replied. "Snowflake."

Tanjiro's face dropped, "why can't my sword have a name?"

"Just give it one," y/n chuckled. "You know a name."

That was the first time Tanjiro had ever heard y/n laugh, or even smile. He liked it. Her laugh was light, like a snowflake. He got why her sword was named that now.

"I'll give it a name later," he smiled. Y/n knew he had a name in mind, but she didn't pry for it. She figured he would eventually tell her.

"Hey, it's getting dark," y/n commented. "I should head home."

"Would you like me to walk you home?" Tanjiro asked.

The corners of y/n's mouth began to lift, "yes."

Y/n didn't expect Tanjiro to offer to walk her home. Still, she enjoyed the walk. Tanjiro kept small talk with y/n. He explained how excited he was for his first mission and how maybe they could go together. Yet again, she agreed. Y/n didn't know what she was doing. She didn't know if she should get close to Tanjiro because he could easily leave her, like everyone else. But, maybe this time, she could enjoy the moment.
