Chapter 20..

                  THE INSTITUTION

The afternoon's warmth and clarity fueled their determination to finding the missing students. All the students in the Goat's gathered in the large field with Sarah and the dean standing in the front.

“ It's not news concerning the disappearance of two students in our wing due to the negligence of your wing master," the dean said and Sarah bowed her head down slightly. " But today, guided by their familiars' keen senses and intuitive connection, we will be heading out to find them regardless of what we may encounter on the way and bring them back safely to the base. Most importantly, an investigation will be carried out to catch the culprit involved in their sudden disappearance.” He announced with a slight increase in his voice.

“ In the next two hours, we would be selecting students that would embark on this rescue mission, with Sarah leading the frontline. Make sure you are all present by then and also fully prepared because, you can never know what we'd face out there.”

“ Yes Sir.” Everyone saluted and shouted in unison. Slowly, the marched out and headed to their dorms.

Matt and Christian went back to their room together with Clyde, anxiously waiting the appointed time.

Eric stood by the open window in his office, staring at the wide expanse of land below when Mitchell walked in.

" Sire, you called for me." She said with her voice barely above a whisper. Immediately after, Eric moved from where he was, went behind his desk and stared at her with his deep black eyes, "Sit." He told her, motioning at the chair opposite him. Mitchell nodded, pulled the chair back and sat down and with her eyes on ground.

Eric stared at her, and his eyes seemed to bore into her soul, " I know what you did." He said, picked up the pen lying careless on his table, it's metal glinting in the fading light, and twirled it in between his fingers with an unnerving slowness.

Shocked, she gripped the end of her dress, looked him in the eye with fake confidence and said, " I don't know what you're talking about sire. I'm sure I'm not the person you intend to speak with." After speaking, Mitchell stood up in a haste but the words he uttered next made her pause.

" Mitchell Blackwater, daughter of the famous local tyrant in Rendell. You were abandoned here by your father, a staunch traditionalist who deemed women inferior." Eric spoke in low tone but it was still loud enough for her to hear. Begrudgingly, Mitchell turned back and asked," what do you want?"

" I know you hate Eva due to some reasons, and I'm also aware you're the one that caused her sudden disappearance. I also know you are working for the shadowhand clan." While watching the fear creeping into Mitchell's eyes, a smirk slowly crawled it's way up his lips.

"How did he know? My father's secrets, my hatred for Eva... I'm trapped. What does he want from me?"

" What do you want from me?" Mitchell asked for the second time, but this time around, her voice lacked the fake courage it had earlier on and she began to fidget. The feeling of panic was gradually setting in, her mind racing with the consequences of getting discovered. The little movements she made unknowingly didn't go unnoticed by Eric.

" I so much love the expression on your face. But don't be afraid, I'm not a bad guy. Infact, I'm just a good guy with twisted motives." Eric said. His eyes gleamed with an unsettling intensity, his smile twisting into a menacing grin.

" Wh... What do you want?" Mitchell asked again, this time around, drops of tears slowly slid down the corners of her eyes. The fear within was hard to conceal, fanning the madness in Eric. His eyes reflected a darkness born from his own tragic past, fueling his thirst for power.

He propelled himself forwards, with his face merely inches apart from hers, he said, " I need you to work for me. If you're a good girl, you'd get to see another day. But if you're not, I'm sure you're smart enough to know what would happen to you."
