Chapter Twenty One ✨✨✨

PREVIOUSLY IN CHAPTER 20

"Wh... What do you want?" Mitchell asked again, this time around, drops of tears slowly slid down the corners of her eyes. The fear within was hard to conceal, fanning the madness in Eric. His eyes reflected a darkness born from his own tragic past, fueling his thirst for power.

He propelled himself forwards, with his face merely inches apart from hers, he said, " I need you to work for me. If you're a good girl then, definitely, I'd spare you. But if you're not, I'm sure you're smart enough to know what would happen to you."

" And you promise to not expose me?" Michelle asked, already deciding to team up with him.

He smiled, he knew he had gotten her now. " As long as you're obedient and useful to me, your secrets are in safe hands." A faint scar above his left eyebrow seemed to twitch, a reminder of his own painful pasts.

CHAPTER 21

In the distance, the muffled thuds of hooves and paws echoed through the air, a symphony of footsteps squelching through the muddy terrain as though on a mission to destroy or rescue.

  Anaxagoras' eyes snapped open as he sensed Eva's distress. He let out a loud roar and with new found energy, ran towards the direction where he felt the tug of connection between him and Eva. His actions fueled the hopes of the various teams on the search mission.

  The muddy ground gave way beneath Anaxagoras' paws, releasing earthy scents into the crisp air. Panic gripped his heart as he sensed Eva's fear, her presence fading away like a whispered promise.

Eva's faint whispers echoed in Anaxagoras' mind ' Please... Find.. me'

EVA's P.O.V

The light from the afternoon sun which stood high and bright shone on the trees from above, casting long, ominous shadows on the forest floors. The sounds of birds chirping merrily wafted through the air, oblivious to the life threatening battle that happened a few kilometers away.

While I and Mika tried to move as far away as possible from that bear-like creature despite the fact that I was slowing us down, I started to sense the gaze of a dark presence watching us from behind the darkness of the trees in the forest.

" Mika, something is watching us " I said fearfully, my voice barely audible due to exhaustion.

" I sensed it too- a very dark powerful presence " Mika replied, her grip on my shoulder tightened and with other hand, she reached for her dagger. Her eyes locked onto mine, determination burning within.

The air seemed to vibrate with malevolent energy, making both their skins crawl.

"Shit, how did we end up here?" I muttered as panic threatened to overwhelm me. In my heart, I cried out to Anaxagoras to please save me.

Mika drew her dagger, it gleamed in the fading light, ready to face the unknown threat.

Suddenly we heard faint whispers in our ears, " I'd be back when you both are strong enough to face me." And then, we felt the presence slowly fade away with the forest breeze. The fading presence left behind an eerie silence, foreshadowing a greater danger.

Both I and Mika let out loud breaths in relief as we no longer felt it's presence. We hastened our steps and quickly left that spot before the presence decides to change it's mind.

Not too far away, the presence still watched Mika and Eva from the shadows, reporting back to the leader of the shadowhand clan. Their leader, the ruthless Archon, who sought to exploit Mika's metal control for his own gain.

Not too long after, Anaxagoras burst through the underbushes with the rescue team behind him, his majestic wings beating the air. His fiery gaze locked onto Eva's form.

With a deafening roar, he swooped down, his scales glistening in the fading light. He gently enveloped Eva with his claws, cradling her as if she was a precious treasure.

" Eva!!" Sarah screamed as she saw her lying limp in Anaxagoras claws. She turned to face Mika, asking her for details of that happened.

" We encountered a strange bear, it looked like something spurned out of dark magic. It attacked us and we got into a fight." Mika expression turned grim as she added, " she has been poisoned, the bear's claw were laced with dark magic."

Anaxagoras let out a loud growl as he sensed Eva's life force ebbing away. Sarah took Eva from his claws after taking permission from him and gently placed her on his back. She hopped on his back and immediately Anaxagoras took off, heading towards the direction of the institution.
