Chapter 24🔗
Christian's face tightened with concern. "I don't know, but we need to find out." He turned to Elder Aria. "Can you sense anything?"
Elder Aria's eyes narrowed, her hands weaving intricate patterns in the air. "Eva's energy signature has shifted. Her connection to the forces of this realm has intensified."
Mika's grip on her sword tightened. "What does that mean?"
Elder Aria's expression turned grave. "It means Eva's transformation has begun and she might be in grave danger."
‡‡AT THE SHADOWHAND CLAN SECRET HIDEOUT‡‡
At the Shadowhand Clan's secret hideout, the massive wooden door swung open, revealing the inner sanctum's warm glow. The scent of old leather and smoke wafted in, carrying whispers of ancient secrets.
A tall, cloaked figure entered, kneeling before the dark ebony throne in the room. He lowered his hood, exposing his face that was covered with scars, and bowed his head in submission.
Seated on the throne, a rugged-looking man nodded curtly, acknowledging his presence. "Did you find what I sent you to seek?" His tone was cold, commanding.
"Yes, Master," the cloaked figure replied. "I found the last metal bender. And with her, a girl possessing an unusual affinity – untapped potential hinting at a long-forgotten lineage. Her powers were so strong that I could feel it's connection to the earth. The only problem is, her powers feels like it's being suppressed master."
The man on the throne leaned forward, his eyes gleaming with interest. "An unusual affinity, you say? That's rare. Bring them before me."
The cloaked man nodded, rising to his feet. "I'll retrieve them immediately, Master."
As he turned to leave, a figure emerged from the shadows behind the throne. "Wait, Kael." The voice was low and menacing.
Kael halted, his head bowed. "Yes, Elder Ryker?"
Elder Ryker's eyes narrowed. "What makes you think this girl's affinity is suppressed?"
Kael hesitated before speaking. "Her energy feels... contained. Like she's unaware of her true potential."
Elder Ryker's gaze lingered on Kael before shifting to the throne. "Master, perhaps this girl is more valuable than we initially thought."
The man on the throne steepled his fingers, his expression calculating. "Indeed. We'll uncover the secrets of her powers. Bring her, and the metal bender, to the holding cells. Prepare them for... examination."
Kael bowed and exited, disappearing into the darkness.
‡‡ UNKNOWN PLACE ‡‡
Two Drekavacs burst in from the shadows, covered in mud and wounds from the recent battle.
"Master, Master, we lost Jafar to the sword of that girl's friend," one of the Drekavacs said, its voice sounding like something coming out of the pit of hell, sending shivers through the air.
The Master's chamber fell silent, the only sound the labored breathing of the wounded Drekavacs. The damp earthy sent mingled with sweat and coppery, filling the chamber with a heavy, oppressive atmosphere.
Seated on a twisted, blackwood throne, the Master's face twisted in rage. "Jafar, fallen?" His voice dropping to a menacing growl. "How could this happen?"
Gorthok, the lead Drekavac, quacked with fear, his eyes darting towards the master. "The girl's friend... he wielded a sword imbued with darksteel. Jafar underestimated him."
The Master's eyes blazed with fury. "Bring me this friend. I want his soul to scream for eternity."
Gorthok hesitated. "Master, the girl... she possesses an unusual affinity. Her powers—"
The Master's gaze snapped to Gorthok. "You dare mention her now? After failing to capture her?"
Gorthok cringed, expecting punishment. "No, Master. I merely—"
"Silence!" The Master's voice shook the chamber. "You will redeem yourselves. Find the girl and her friend. Bring them before me, alive."
As the Drekavacs nodded and exited, the Master's attention turned to a mysterious, hooded figure lurking in the shadows.
"Inform our allies," the Master whispered, "the hunt begins."
" Yes sire."

Max's boots echoed through the dimly lit infirmary, the scent of herbs and candle wax filling his nostrils. He approached Eva's bedside, his expression shrouded.
Why did he come?
The soft glow of luminescent crystals illuminated Eva's pale face, her chest rising and falling with shallow breaths. Max's gaze lingered, his animosity simmering.
You're supposed to be weak, Eva. Broken.
A healer emerged from the shadows, her eyes watchful. "Max, I didn't expect you to visit. Eva's condition is... Complicated"
Max's eyes narrowed. "Complicated?"
The healer hesitated. "Her aura is disturbed, as if her magical energies are... awakening."
Max's interest piqued, his animosity momentarily replaced by curiosity.
What secrets did Eva hide?
As he turned to leave, Eva's eyes flickered open.
Their gazes met.
