Chapter 25: Unspoken Tensions

Eva's eyes locked onto Max's, a spark of awareness flashing between them. The dimly lit infirmary seemed to fade into the background as they stared at each other.

Max's expression, once shrouded, now revealed a hint of curiosity. Eva's gaze, though weak, held a silent challenge.

The healer's voice broke the silence. "Max, I didn't expect you to visit. Eva's condition is... complicated."

Max's eyes never left Eva's. "Complicated?" he repeated, his tone laced with skepticism.

The healer hesitated. "Her aura is disturbed, as if her magical energies are... awakening."

Eva's gaze dropped, her eyelids fluttering shut. Max's eyes lingered, his thoughts hidden.

---

Later that night, Mitchell glided silently through the darkness, the flickering torches casting eerie shadows on the wall as she sought crucial intel on Eva's mysterious condition. Her mission: report back to Eric.

Inside the healing chamber, Elder Aria's unique energy signature resonated. "...Eva's aura remains unstable," Aria whispered.

Mitchell's ears perked up. What did this mean for Eric's plans?

"What does it mean?" a healer asked, worry etched in her voice.

Elder Aria's voice dropped to a whisper. "Eva's transformation accelerates... unpredictable consequences."

Mitchell committed every word to memory. This information would be valuable to Eric.

She retreated, careful not to be seen.

Mitchell hastened through the corridors, seeking Eric. She found him in the training hall, sword in hand. "Eric, I have news," Mitchell whispered urgently.

Eric's eyes narrowed. "What is it?"

"Eva's transformation... it's accelerating," Mitchell reported. "The healers speak of unpredictable consequences."

Eric's grip on his sword tightened. "Hurry, tell Avine what you heard."

Unbeknownst to Mitchell, Matt watched from the shadows, his eyes locked onto her retreating figure. Why was Mitchell snooping around Eva's room? And what did she discuss with Eric? Matt's curiosity ignited.

---------

A hooded figure emerged from the shadows, careful to avoid detection. Mitchell approached the designated meeting point, where two figures awaited, shrouded in darkness.

"What kept you, Mitchell?" Eric's voice was low and urgent, his features illuminated by the moon's silvery glow. "Our meeting was scheduled thirty minutes ago."

Mitchell's voice was laced with caution. "Apologies, sire. Matt was tailing me. I believe he harbors suspicions."

Eric's gaze narrowed, his eyes glinting in the moonlight. "Matt's vigilance is a concern. If this goes on, he'll be a hindrance to our plans."

The third hooded figure stepped forward, its voice barely above a whisper. "The dark Lord will not be pleased with this development."

Eric's jaw clenched. " Avine, inform the dark Lord of Eva's transformation and its implications. We cannot afford to delay."

Avine nodded, disappearing into the night, leaving Eric and Mitchell to figure out a way to disrupt Eva's transformation.

---

The training hall echoed with clashing swords and calculated movements. Amidst the chaos, a group of students huddled, their conversation barely audible.

"Eva's transformation is accelerating," one whispered.

"Unpredictable consequences," another added, eyes wide with excitement.

Mitchell's friends, Rachel and Alex, approached her, smirking. "Hey, Mitchell, heard the news?" Rachel asked, malice dripping from her voice.

Mitchell feigned indifference. "What news?"

"Eva's condition," Alex chimed in. "She's doomed."

Rachel snickered. "You must be thrilled, Mitchell. Your plan worked beautifully."

Mitchell's expression remained neutral, but inwardly, she reveled in her success. If she hadn't orchestrated Eva's kidnapping, the girl wouldn't be in this predicament.

"Who knows?" Mitchell said nonchalantly. "Maybe Eva will surprise everyone."

Rachel raised an eyebrow. "You're not exactly known for empathy, Mitchell. Don't play coy."

Mitchell shrugged. "Just stating facts. Eva's always been... resilient."

As Rachel and Alex walked away, laughing, Mitchell allowed herself a fleeting smile. Her secret remained safe, and Eva's downfall was assured.

Matt watched from afar, curiosity piqued. Something didn't add up.

"Looks like Mitchell's hiding something," Matt thought. "I need to keep an eye on her."
