As mentioned before, these wolves are called the Dams. The pregnancy can cause a lot of changes to a human overall and much more to a werewolf and for various reasons.

The mother wolf can't shift until the baby is born (which will last 3-5 months since that's how long it takes for the werewolf baby to develop). The reasons for this is because if can cause great harm to the baby since transformation consists of snapping bones and organs changing places and positions.
So, if the mother is to be pregnant in wolf form, she will stay in her wolf form until the baby is born and she has enough energy to shift back. This can cause the baby to be born as wolf instead of human, which brings us to the Lupus (wolf-born).
If the mother was to remain in her human form while pregnant, her body would have to make up for it in other ways.

HOW DOES THE BODY MAKE UP FOR THE TEMPORARY LOSS OF HER WOLF?
- She will gain heightened senses, much higher than a normal wolf.
- She will be faster and stronger. She might even be able to take on an Alpha in human form.
- And yes, her mate will feel all of her emotions.✧༝┉˚*❋ ❋*˚┉༝✧
If the mother is a human, it can be extremely dangerous for her and the baby/babies since her body can not handle the drastic change. Because of the fact that the baby only takes 3-5 months to develop (depending on how many babies she will have. The more, the longer) - if the baby is werewolf - and the fact that they drain the mother of energy and food and all, the mother can die or it won't be enough for the babies and they might die. (Or even them both, sadly)
