Summary; the scene where Theo tried to take Mason's pain but a little different.
"You can't take pain if you don't care." Mason said when he was sitting against the wall of the tunnel, being hurt. Theo looked at him while still trying; he cared, he cared so much. He wanted to help him desperately. Theo's eyes welled up in tears; he was exhausted, mentally and physically. He needed his anchor. He wanted to be save, not constantly having to worry about someone trying to kill him or experiment on him.
"I-" Theo stopped when it felt like his voice was going to break. He stood up, backing away a little. He was scared and somewhere in his mind he knew Mason was right, even though the chimera tried so hard to help, to change.
"It's okay, Theo. You tried, right?" A familiar voice spoke from behind the chimera. The scared boy turned around and saw the one person he really needed at that moment.
"Liam?" Theo said, his voice shaking, shocked but relieved when he saw him. Without thinking, he wrapped his arms around Liam and hugged him tight, while the tears streamed down his face and onto Liam's shoulder. The chimera began to cry harder until he sounded like he was really in pain. The only thing Liam could do was hug him tightly, not letting go until Theo was calm again. Mason was watching how Liam tried to calm the chimera down by rubbing his back up and down. The human was still in pain and it didn't help much when he started feeling guilty about what he said to Theo.
It was a few minutes until Theo calmed down and pulled away from Liam, feeling guilty.
"I-I'm sorry, I eh, I'm fine now." Theo spoke, his voice a bit broken.
"Are you sure?" Liam asked. The chimera nodded, faking a smile while getting to Mason's side, trying to get the human to his feet. It was hard but with Liam's help Mason was up to his feet. As they were walking out the tunnels, Liam was thinking about how Theo broke down into tears for the first time, at least as far as Liam knew. He didn't know he could care about someone as much as about Theo. And yet here he was, worrying if Theo was going to be okay.
*
After everything, the Hunters, the Anuke-ite, Theo was about to drive away from Beacon Hills, but when he was driving in his blue pick-up truck, he got a frantic call from Liam. Apparently, he was in danger, attacked by hunters. Theo turned his car around and sped back to Beacon Hills.
Once the chimera got there, he went to where his Liam's smell led him; his house.
"Liam?" Theo callled through the house. "Li?!"
He looked around frantically, not hearing the sound of guns or people fighting. He didn't smell blood from either Liam or a Hunter.
"Hey, there you are." Liam's voice came from upstairs. Theo inspected the boy, scanning for any kind of wounds. He found none, though.
"Where are the hunters? I thought you were in danger?" Theo said with fear in his eyes.
"Nowhere, I'm not in danger. I just needed an excuse so you would come over and not skip town."
"How did you-"
"I'm not stupid, I knew you would leave as soon as everything was clear." Liam explained, looking at Theo with a warm smile while the taller boy looked at him with a confused look.
"So why am I here than?" Theo asked worriedly.
"I wanted to make sure you were okay." Liam walked closer to the other boy.
"And you couldn't just ask me it on the phone instead of making me worried for nothing?"
"You didn't answer my question." Liam shot back with a small smile.
"I'm okay." Theo lied. The other boy listened to Theo's heartbeat carefully, noticing the slight jump in the chimera's heartbeat.
"You're not. I noticed it already when you broke down in tears, into my arms that night." Liam said with a worried look.
"I just-" Theo stopped, not sure what to say because Liam was right, he wasn't okay, he was tired and scared, sad and depressed. He didn't belong in Beacon Hills and everyone knew that.
"It's okay to not be okay, y'know." Liam said sincerely. He smiled at the older boy.
"Mhm." Theo said absentmindedly, thinking as to why Liam cared so much for him. Did Liam forget what the chimera did? As Theo was thinking, he felt hands rubbing his upper arms up and down. He looked down at his arms for a quick second before realizing it was Liam, looking at him worriedly with a frown. Liam took the distracted chimera to the couch and made him sit down.
"How do you feel?" Liam asked.
"Eh- I am..." Theo trailed off. He had a hard time expressing feelings.
"What?"
"I am not... well... and- and I like for this feeling to be gone." Theo finally revealed. He looked away, clearly sad, Liam smelled it. So he took the taller boy's face and turned it to look at Liam. The beta's heart broke when he saw tears streaming down Theo's face.
"Hey, it's okay. Let it all out."
