THE NEXT TIME THAT Apollo visited in her dream, she flung at him, hugging him tightly and sobbed in his chest. No words were spoken, the girl crying her heart out as she soaked his shirt, although Apollo did nothing to stop her.
When she finally calmed down, Rhea detangled herself away from Apollo, hiccuping and sniffling. "Did you know?" She croaked.
"What?" Apollo asked.
"Did you know that that would happen?"
Silence.
"You did?" Her voice was starting to rise. "You knew that I would lose my mother and did nothing to stop it?"
"Rhea," Apollo wet his lips and pursed them. "I cannot change too much of the future. I'm sorry."
At that, Rhea took deep breaths and tried to calm down, reminding herself that it wasn't technically Apollo's fault that her mother was dead.
"She's not."
"What?"
"She's not dead." Apollo said softly. "I can promise you that you will meet her again."
"Yeah," Rhea muttered. "When I'm on my way to Hades."
She got a flick on her forehead in response. "Ow!"
"No," Apollo chided. "That's not what I mean. That's all I can say. I can't tell you anymore."
Rhea sighed tiredly, running a hand through her black hair, messing it up even more. "It's okay. I understand, 'pollo."
Apollo smiled sadly in return. "I have already healed your injuries. You should be waking up soon."
As if on cue, her vision started getting gray and blurry, making Apollo smile. "You're waking up now. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood, seaweed brain."
Rhea's eyes snapped open and immediately took in her surroundings. She was seated in a deck chair on a huge porch, gazing across a meadow at green hills in the distance. There was a blanket over her legs, a pillow behind her back. She glanced down at her body, and smiled softly when she realized that her scars were no longer present and that she no longer felt any pain.
Apollo really out-did himself this time.
On the table next to her was a tall drink. It looked like iced apple juice, with a green straw and a paper parasol stuck through a maraschino cherry.
Rhea glanced to her right and saw her twin still passed out.
"You're not supposed to be up." The voice startled her slightly, her sea-green eyes whipping to the sound of the voice. It was female, and it belonged to the same girl she saw earlier at the pine tree.
"What do you mean?" Even her throat felt normal.
"It's only been three hours." She said in a bossy tone. "Your wounds are completely healed. No use of nectar or ambrosia. How?"
Rhea could only shrug.
Way to be subtle, 'pollo.
Yeah, I didn't really think that part through. Was his sheepish response back.
"I like your eyes." Rhea blurted out before letting out a flush. Her eyes were the most unique shade of gray she has ever seen. The girl found it cool that they turned stormy like gray thunderstorm clouds when her mood changed.
The girl in question raised an eyebrow. "Er.... thanks?" Her attention turned to Rhea's brother, who had drool coming out of the corner of his mouth. "Name's Annabeth. Annabeth Chase."
