Freya is only nine when she sees her mom's scars for the first time. She's eleven when she's told why.

"When are you gonna tell me, mooom?" Freya drawled. Adora chuckled softly. "When you're old enough to understand," She answered. Freya whined. "But it looks cool! Tell me!" She huffed. Adora tapped her nose. "When you're old enough," Freya stomped her foot in a tantrum. "Freya," Adora warned. Freya huffed.

A few weeks later, she asked again. This time, Catra answered. "When you're eleven," She smiled. "How's that?" Freya grumbled. "I don't see why you won't tell me," She mumbled. Catra snorted. "Because you're too young to understand everything. There's stuff you need to understand first,"

Another few weeks passed, and this time, they were at the beach with Glimmer and Bow's kids as well. "Auntie Dora?" The littlest, Angelle, asked. Adora raised an eyebrow at her daughter. "Yes, Angelle?" She met her daughter's nervous looks. "Why-Why is that?" Angelle pointed to the heart-shaped scar on Adora's chest. "My heart?" She asked softly. Angelle began to suck her thumb. "Um..." She glanced at Freya.

Freya shrugged. "She wanted to know, Mom," Adora hummed. "Mm hm," She raised an eyebrow. Freya shuffled. "Angelle, my scar is from something I did a long time ago. Over ten years," She smiled. "It's fine, and I'll explain it when you're old enough. Ok?" Angelle giggled. "Otay,"

On Freya's eleventh birthday, she sat cross-legged in front of Adora and Catra. "You said when I was eleven," She looked at the calendar, then tapped her badge. "I'm eleven," She frowned, her tail whipping behind. "Now tell me!" She faltered slightly under the glares of her mothers. "Please," She added quietly. Catra glanced at Adora, who shrugged. "We're gonna cut a mega-long story short," She began. "But, when I was twenty-one, a little over eleven years ago, I had to fight a very bad person," Adora continued. "To defeat him, which we did," She glanced at Catra, holding her hand. "I had to take on something called a failsafe... to absorb some magic the bad person was after," She sighed shakily. "The failsafe left a scar on my chest when I used it," She smiled.

Freya narrowed her mismatched eyes. "I don't believe that's it," She grumbled. Catra snorted. "Nowhere near," She patted Freya's unruly hair, inherited from the magicat herself. "But that's enough for now. Your mom doesn't like to admit it, but she doesn't like telling the story," Adora looked away, busying herself with a book by her side. "I'm sure you'll study it in school anyway,"

Freya's ears twitched as her mom whispered lowly, low enough for her mama to miss. "She nearly died, Freya. Don't keep asking her,"

Freya looked at her lap. "I-" The sentence broke in her throat. She clambered up to her mama's chest, hugging her tightly. Adora wrapped her arms around her tightly. "Thank you for telling me," Freya whispered. "And I love you,"
