For those of you unfamiliar with the Royal Romance story...
It's about a waitress who meets a Prince one night, and is swept away to a foreign land to compete for his hand in marriage. As this is a visual novel, the reader gets to choose whether the main character will fall in love with the Prince, or if another will steal her heart...
In this version of the story, the main character Jen becomes a Duchess and goes on to marry Maxwell Beaumont, a close friend of the now King Rick who originally sponsored her to compete for Rick's hand. Shortly after they get married, they decide to start a family. Rick, who needs an heir for the throne, asks them if they would be willing for their child to become his heir. They agree, but throughout Jen's pregnancy there is mounting pressure from neighbouring counties to consolidate power with Cordonia. This comes to a head at a palace ball, when Jen goes into labour unexpectedly...
Note: this fic includes major character death, bereavement and grief, death in childbirth, depression and suicidal thoughts, and drug use. Also strong language, and some chapters have sexual content.
