Percy's P.O.V.
I saw the next memory show up and I shrunk into my moms side, my eyes like slits in fear. I was shaking badly that my mom wrapped his arms around me in concern but the fear that I felt in that moment prevented me from calming down.
My heart raced as I cowered in the corner of the room. At just five years old, I had already learned the hard way that talking back to Smelly Gabe was a mistake. His face, twisted with anger, loomed over me, and I braced myself for the inevitable beating.
"You think you're so clever, don't you?" Gabe's voice dripped with venom as he advanced towards me. I trembled, unable to find the words to defend myself. The fear clutched at my throat, strangling any response that dared to escape.
But even in my fear, a small voice inside me whispered, "Stand up for yourself, Percy. Don't let him win." Summoning every ounce of courage I could muster, I found my voice. "You can't hurt me anymore," I managed to say, my voice shaking.
Gabe's eyes narrowed, his nostrils flaring with rage. "Oh, really?" he sneered, his hand raised high above his head. I closed my eyes tight, bracing myself for the pain that was about to come crashing down on me.
The sound of a slap echoed through the room, followed by a sharp stinging sensation on my cheek. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
"You're nothing but a worthless brat," Gabe spat, his voice filled with contempt. "No one will ever love you."
I bit my lip, fighting back the tears. I refused to believe his cruel words. Deep down, I knew I was stronger than he ever gave me credit for. I would prove him wrong someday.
As Gabe turned to leave the room, I whispered to myself, "I won't let him break me. I won't let him define who I am." And with those words, a flicker of determination ignited within me, fueling my resolve to rise above the abuse and find a better life for myself.
"I am going to murder that man," Thalia growled out.
"To late he was caught by Medusa's head," I told her. Thalia cackled like a maniac. I could see mom's face had an evil smirk and I buried my face into his chest. He rubbed my back the same way he had done when he used to breastfeed me and I relaxed into his embrace trying to calm down.
"I may have to see if he is on the list of those who are to get my attention," Mom whispered. "And if he doesn't I will move him there and torture him."
I just laid my head on his chest trying not to cry. I could tell that dad was beyond pissed and was trying not to cause earthquakes and hurricanes but I knew that there was most likely a hurricane and earthquake happening somewhere in the world.
