"Hey, honey! How was your day at school?" You asked as your daughter walked through the door.
Miley was sitting at the table as she wrote some lyrics down that had been running through her head all day and you were looking for something to make for dinner.
Your daughter, who was only seven years old, looked sad as she walked into the kitchen.
"Is everything okay, sweetie?" Miley asked as she put her things down.
She got up and went over to your daughter, who quickly threw her arms around Miley for a big hug.
"Oh, hey," Miley whispered as she rubbed her back and turned to look at you.
"Did you have a bad day?" You asked as you walked to your girls.
"Yeah." Your daughter quietly answered.
You know she's been going through some things at school.
She's being bullied and has also fallen behind in her schoolwork due to being sick lately and unable to catch up.
She's had it rough and you and Miley have been doing all you can to try and make everything better.
But kids can be mean and they seemed to be especially so to your little girl.
You thought for a moment about what might cheer her up.
Even though you haven't made dinner yet, one thing quickly came to mind.
Perhaps you could do dessert before dinner today, just this once.
Anything to cheer your daughter up.
"How about we go out for ice cream? Will that cheer you up a little?" You asked.
She let Miley go and sent you both that precious smile that had a couple of holes in it due to her teeth falling out and her bigger ones starting to grow in.
It was your favorite sight to see; seeing your daughter happy, smiling so brightly.
"Would you like that?" Miley asked.
"Yeah!"
"Okay, let's go." You said.
The three of you got ready to go and headed to the car as Miley locked up the house.
The whole way, your daughter stared out the window, smiling so happily.
You arrived not much later and as soon as you opened the door to the ice cream shop, she was running inside excitedly.
"That's much better," Miley said as she wrapped her arm around you. "I'd do anything to see her that happy all day every day."
"Me too." You said as you got up to the counter.
"What kind are you going to get, angel?" Miley asked as she knelt on the floor beside your daughter.
"I don't know." She said as she stared at all the flavors on display in the freezer.
"Cookie dough? Chocolate? Strawberry? Cotton candy?" Miley spoke. "They all sound so yummy!"
"Yeah!" She exclaimed. "I want strawberry."
"Strawberry? Okay." You said.
"Two scoops of strawberry ice cream in a cup." You told the worker. "Can you put some sprinkles on it as well?"
"Of course!"
You ordered ice cream for you and Miley too.
You took a seat at the table and your daughter was so happy as she ate spoonful after spoonful.
Even though you're usually very keen on making sure she eats before she gets sweets, you were happy you bent the rules this time around.
Because she needed some cheering up.
"Is it good?" You asked.
"Yeah!" She excitedly answered.
"You know we love you very much, right?" Mikey spoke to her. "And that the kids in your school can say all they want about you but it doesn't mean anything?"
"Exactly. Because you're a beautiful, bright, sweet girl. You are our entire world and we love you more than anything and we'll always be here for you." You told her.
"Love you too." She said as she put another spoonful of ice cream in her mouth.
"Did anything fun happen today? Did you learn anything new?" You asked.
And she quickly started to talk to you and Miley about something new that she learned, something she was very excited about.
You put your head on Miley's shoulder with a big smile, both of you wishing that your precious daughter would be this happy forever.
